March Madness….Think Spring!
As the walls begin to close in this winter, it is a rare parent who doesn’t hear the familiar words, “Mom and Dad, I’m bored!” I’ll be honest, my family enjoys such winter activities as building a snowman, and sledding and even though this year Mother Nature and Old Man Winter have not been too hard on us, every year around this time we are ready to move on to the next season. This year is no exception. The kids have had a bit too much indoor togetherness, and I have once again started to wonder how many more games of Jenga, Euchre and Jungle Speed one mother can really be expected to play.
Warmer weather will soon be in the air. (Won’t it?) But, until then here are some boredom busters to help prevent an outbreak of March Madness:

ROOKIE PARENT SPRING TRAINING!
Thursday, March 8th 9:00-11:00 or 1:00-3:00
Please join us for a fun morning of learning, sharing and take-home projects! We are so proud of our Raymond Rookies and how successful they have been using our Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) here at Raymond! We are confident that our PBIS program will also be helpful to parents if used at home. Come learn about our program, have some fun visiting with other Rookie parents, and making projects that you can use in your home to reinforce positive behavior. A flyer has been sent home and needs to be returned by Thursday, March 1st. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Amanda Bittner at 827-0308.
Be Safe and Responsible 3, 4 and 5 year old children need to have adult supervision when near a street. An adult MUST walk our Raymond Rookies to the bus. Also, an adult MUST meet the bus to get our Raymond Rookies off. Be sure to be waiting 5-10 minutes before your bus pick up and drop off time. Please help keep our Rookies safe while getting to and from school.
Emergency Drills
During the next few months, we will be practicing tornado and fire drills.
Please talk with your child and listen for them to share this information with you. This is a great way to review your safety plans at home.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the office at 827-0308.
Wear Stripes and Celebrate Reading
Thursday, March 1st will be a day to wear stripes and enjoy reading books with special guests as a way to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s Birthday. In addition to a day of fun, each of our Rookies will receive a book during this week made possible through the First Book grant and the local Pi Beta Phi sorority chapter.
Spring Pictures are scheduled for Tuesday, March 13th!
All students will have their picture taken and proofs will be sent home with an order form, so you can preview the pose before your purchase.
BE SURE TO WEAR YOUR SMILES!!

Raymond Rookies All Star News
LOOKING AHEAD
April 13th ABC Event
April 27th Spirit Day-Rookie Wear or Purple and Gold Day
April 27th School Wide PBIS Celebration
We expect our Raymond Rookies to always do their best and we want them to be safe, kind, and responsible. Each week, as a class/team, Rookies have the opportunity to earn popcorn on a daily basis which allows their baseball player to run the bases. At the end of the week, if the player has arrived at home plate, the whole class/team earns a positive reinforcement for their behavior. Typically on Fridays, you receive an All Star News note in your Rookies’ backpack letting you know what we have been focusing on and the incentive that was earned. This has been a great way to recognize an entire class/team and help them understand the important role that all Rookies play. But, the time has come to begin recognizing our All Star Rookies! What is an All Star Rookie? This is a Rookie that is always safe, kind, and responsible. This is a Rookie that understands and shows that making good choices are important. This is a Rookie that steps up to the plate everyday and swings for the fences. Starting in March and continuing once a month for the remainder of the year, we will honor our All Star Rookies in front of their teammates so that other Rookies can see the importance of always being a Ready Rookie. Our first line-up of All Star Rookies will be mentioned in the April newsletter. Be sure to look over the roster and make sure your Rookie is in the line-up. If they are in the line-up be sure to celebrate their success of being a safe, kind, and responsible Rookie at home and let them know how proud you are of them. If they are not listed in the All Star Rookie line-up, please use this opportunity to talk with your Rookie about their behavior at school and help them make school a hit by coaching them and encouraging them to achieve All Star status.
