PREPARATIONI recommend sanding the plaque before painting.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONSStart by basecoating the entire plaque with Toff ee and let dry. Then sponge (with a pouncing motion) all over the plaque with Natural Buff and let dry. Pounce/sponge once more with Toff ee (lightly) to help blend and soften. Let dry completely.

Painting the Engraved Wreath and LeavesStart by thinning Burnt Umber to an ink-like consis-tency. Use this to fi ll in all of the engraved vine areas and to also outline all of the leaves on the vine.

If you get paint out of the engraved area, simply wipe it off quickly and/or touch up with additional Toff ee Let this dry completely before proceeding.

Basecoat most of the leaves on the wreath with Hauser Medium Green. Two coats will probably be best for the best coverage. Drybrush these leaves with Foliage Green. Paint the rest of the leaves on the wreath with Foliage Green and drybrush those with Olive Green. Add the fi ne lines to the leaves with Black (or use your marker).

If you need to go back and touch up any engraved areas around your leaves, do this with thinned Burnt Umber. Once this is complete, you may now transfer your design.

DaisiesStems are all based in Hauser Medium Green. (You may need two coats for complete coverage.)

Basecoat the centers of all the daisies solidly with Saff ron Yellow. Add an additional coat of Saff ron Yellow as well. You may want to ‘dab’ on the second coat for quicker application and to give the centers a bit of texture. Once this has dried, dab Banana Cream over the centers to highlight. Dab once again with Saff ron Yellow to blend and tone it down a bit.

Basecoat a few random petals on the daisies with Light Buttermilk. Basecoat the remaining petals on all daisies with Warm White and let dry. Paint down the center of the Warm White petals with a stroke of Snow White.

Shade around the centers with thinned Canyon Or-ange. Once dry, fi nely outline all stems, petals, centers and add details with Black (I used my pen).

BluebirdStart by basecoating the bottom part of his belly solid-ly with Light Buttermilk. Once dry, drybrush with Warm White. Basecoat his chest with Burnt Orange, then drybrush with Canyon Orange. Shade lightly under the chest area with Canyon Orange as well.

Basecoat his head, the wing feathers in the back, the top section of the main wing and the small section behind the tail, all with Ocean Blue. Apply an additional coat if necessary for solid coverage. Drybrush these same areas with Salem Blue, then drybrush again lightly with Ocean Blue to blend. The small patch on the back wing (behind his head) is painted with True Blue.

All tail feathers and the feathers of the main wing are all based with Blue Haven. Let dry. With slightly thinned Warm White, paint a stroke of this down the center of each Blue Haven feather.

Finely outline the legs/feet and beak with Black. Fill in these areas with Zinc. Drybrush the beak lightly with Warm White. Add an outline of Canyon Orange to the beak, where the beak meets the face. Re-outline the beak in Black if necessary. Outline his eye with Black and fi ll in with Burnt Umber. Once this has dried, add the pupil with Black. Add a tiny dot and fi ne highlight with Snow White. (Eyelashes are also lined in Black). Finely outline the entire Bluebird in Black, including all feathers.

Bluebell FlowersBasecoat all stems and leaves with Hauser Medium Green. Wet brush a stroke of Foliage Green down the centers of the leaves. Finely outline and add details to the leaves with Black. For the petals: Petals that are behind the main fl ower or at the bottom of the open fl owers are all based solidly in True Blue. All petals that are in the middle, are based in Blue Haven. Outer petals on each side are all based in Ocean Blue.

Drybrush the Blue Haven (middle petals) with Warm White. On the open fl owers, shade Ocean Blue across the middle section, working up from the center. Finely outline all fl owers in Black. Line the fi laments of the fl owers with Black and outline all dots at the end of the fi laments with Black as well. Fill in all dots with Saff ron Yellow and dot the centers with Saff ron Yellow as well.

FINISHINGTo add a bit more interest, I randomly dotted ‘3-dot clusters’ of Warm White here and there across the background. Once dry, I spray sealed it with Ameri-cana’s Matte Spray Finisher and let dry. Our little blue-bird of Spring is now ready to display and enjoy!

Thank You!!
