Wednesday, October 18 Riverside Dinner Theatre Presents

on golden pond Fredericksburg, VA

Cost: $93 pp Reservations Open: September 8

ON GOLDEN POND is a classic American comedy/drama and every bit as touching, warm, and witty today as when it debuted on Broadway in 1979. When Ethel and Norman Thayer return to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year, they are visited by their divorced daughter and her fiancé who then go off to Europe leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. Norman is a near-80 retired professor with heart palpitations and a failing memory who retains his tart-tongued, observant eagerness for life. Ethel is ten years younger and the perfect foil for Norman, delighting in all the small things that have enriched their long life together. As Norman revels in taking his ward fishing, he also learns some lessons about modern teenage awareness in return. When the summer wanes, so does their brief idyll, and in the final, deeply moving moments of the play, Norman and Ethel are brought even closer together by the incidence of a mild heart attack. Though time is now against them, their years together have been rich and full. Perhaps yet another summer on Golden Pond still awaits. This production will feature SPECIAL CELEBRITY GUEST STAR, Joyce DeWitt. We will depart Manassas at 10:00 a.m. and Woodbridge at 10:45 a.m. Return time is approximately 5:00 p.m.

TEA TIME AT INN AT 202 DOVER Easton. MD

Cost: $66 pp Reservations Open: September11

**PRICE SUBSIDIZED BY BLUEBIRD COMMITTEE Join us at The Inn at 202 Dover in Easton, Maryland for a Tea Luncheon. The Inn at 202 Dover is a historic Colonial Revival mansion built in 1874, and is an integral part of the historic fabric of Easton, Maryland. Just a short block from downtown shopping, art galleries and theatre, the Inn has been referred to as Easton’s “Inn of Distinction”. There are many reasons for this, not the least of which is the grace and dominance of the

building itself. In the March 2008 issue of Maryland Life Magazine, the author of an article about the Inn referred to it as the “Buckingham Palace of Inns” for which the owners were quite grateful. Join us for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon with friends or family. In addition to brewed tea of your choice, three courses are served. Your menu will consist of traditional finger sandwiches prepared with European butter and delicious fillings, followed by homemade scones served with crème fraiche and jam, and finished with a variety of mini pastries. After our tea luncheon, we make the short drive across town to the Amish Country Farmers Market. At this unique country market you will find a wide variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables and much, much more all under one roof. There will be several prizes awarded such as a file in a cake, handcuff keys, plus a few commutations and paroles. Prize categories will be created spontaneously by our eccentric Warden who maintains a strict, but happy discipline here at the Pen. Today’s show and the Costume Contest are produced in the renovated Machine Shop. Your bus will drive through a high arched entrance under the North Guard Tower and into The Yard. This building, in the shadow of the Guard Towers, has been renovated in recent years, has good acoustics and serves the local community as a meeting facility. After the concert and costume competition you’ll get a kick out of The Jailbird

Feast. It’s a menu of comfort food, in a prison cafeteria atmosphere, served by the usual suspects. At the conclusion of your dinner, return to your coach and depart for the world famous Capitol Theatre and another great show, the 85th Anniversary of The Wheeling Jamboree. It began in 1933 in the grand tradition of Barn Dance Radio Shows and is still known as “The World’s Original Wheeling Radio Jamboree.” It is one of the last remaining shows of its type, being second only to “Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry” in longevity. This evening’s show is, as always, a variety show with the house band, local and regional artists who precede the headliner. Tonight’s celebrity is country singer and pianist Ronnie Milsap. One of country music’s most popular and influential performers during the 70’s and 80’s, he became country music’s first successful blind singer, and is one of the most successful and versatile country crossover singers of his time, appealing to both country and pop music markets with hit songs that incorporated pop, R&B, and rock and roll elements. Ronnie is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, has a Walk of Fame Star here at the Capitol Theatre, has received 6 Grammys and had 40 No 1 Hits. His most notable being “Smoky Mountain Rain,” “It was Almost Like a Song” and “(There’s) No Getting Over Me.” Also on the Jamboree Stage this evening is Charley McCoy, a Grammy Award winning Harmonica player and another member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Day 3 –Following breakfast you will depart for home.
