What happens at Babes in the Woods?Once the group has arrived we all sit at the �re circle talk about “keeping safe” and play a “name game”. This is a great way for children to develop con�dence in speaking in a friendly and supportive way. No answers are wrong answers and our practitioners are skilled at making every childs contribution feel valued.

As we often have a �re at our sessions we are very keen on encouraging children and adults to respect the �re circle and walk outside of it. To help us remember we often sing songs and recite nursery rhymes around the �re circle.

We then usually have a story which can lead us in an exploration of the site. Stories can be traditional tales, alternative versions, current childrens favourites or completely made up by us!

Stories often have a making task involved which gives the children something to take home and remember their session by.

We then serve hot chocolate, tea, mint tea and proper co�ee to anyone who wants a hot drink.

Our Forest Schools sessions are child centered and child led. As such, if at any time a child wants to explore, climb a tree, jump in a puddle, even in the middle of the story then that is �ne by us!

We completely understand that sometimes you may arrive late or need to leave early or cancel at the last minute. We are a family provision and try to put the needs of your family �rst where at all possible

How to join inTo book a place on one of our sessions please visit the Be More Outdoors website. Our weekday sessions are

£4 per person, big or small and £5 at the weekend. Hot drinks are included in the price and we often provide a

camp�re snack when the weather is chilly. (Please make us aware of any special dietary needs before the session so we can ensure that we are meeting your needs e�ectively)

We also run family bushcraft sessions, adult spoon carving, children’s parties and special events

throughout the year.

What is Babes in the Wood?Babes in the Wood is an established family forest school based in the Colne Valley in Hudders�eld.

We run regular weekly sessions at our Horse �eld site, a few minutes walk from the centre of Slaithwaite village and at other locations throughout the area.

We have worked with thousands of children and hundreds of families over the last �ve years and pride ourselves in our ability to o�er a safe, professional and fun experience in the outdoors to all of our attendees.

What is Forest Schools?The aim of Forest Schools is to facilitate the engagement of individuals with the outdoors and promote personal development.

At Babes in the Wood forest School, participants will:

• Gain in con�dence, independence and communication skills• Take risks, both physical and emotional, in a managed environment• Set small achievable goals to help promote self esteem• Achieve targets across the breadth of the EYFS Statutory Framework and National Curriculum• Foster a sense of environmental responsibility• Develop their motor skills through outdoor play• Acquire skill with tools, �re and knowledge of woodland crafts• Improve re�ective practice

Our Forest School is a Family Provision and as such parents and carers take part in all aspects and bene�t as much as the children do.
