Phase Shift-2019

Department of computer applications hosted various events as a part of the technical symposium- PHASE SHIFT held on 14th and 15th of September 2019. A large group of students from different colleges participated in various events. The faculty coordinator for the event was Mrs. Shailaja K.P and the student coordinators were Ms.Pooja V, Ms. Vardhini R and Mr.Kushal S.L Here is a brief description about the various events held on the two days.

1. Sliders

The event was the first event of our department. Here the participants were given a topic on

spot and the participants had to prepare a power point presentation in 20 minutes. The

presentation had to contain 5 slides and the participants had to present in 5 minutes. The

event coordinators were Bharath P and Ranjitha and Dr. D.N Sujatha, faculty coordinator.

2. Stress your brain This event had 3 rounds where the first was a presentation with different logos and the participants had to guess the correct one. The second round was where students had to guess tricky puzzles with loud music on to stress them out. The final round had a tangled jumper wire set and the participants had to untangle the same with a specific pattern and in between the students had to answer the questions that were shot at them to stress them out. The student coordinators were Harshitha N and Gautham and the faculty coordinator was Dr. S Uma.

3. Zeal(Workshop) The workshop on Energy Efficiency and Sustainability by Mr. Karan Kumar H. The session was very effective and interactive and was well received by the participants. The student coordinators were Gowda Pooja Umesh and Kashish Singh and Mrs. T S Pushpa and P Lakshminarayana faculty coordinators.

4. Dazzle coding The event was blind coding where the monitor was turned off but the cpu was on and the students had to solve the given problems and once they finished coding the monitor would be switched on to check the output. The student coordinators were Anamika Tripathi and Manasa and the faculty coordinator was Mrs. S Shilpa.

5. Mimic Tarriance

This event was a mock interview event where the students had different rounds hat were similar to the process of mock interview- The aptitude round, Coding, Group discussion and the HR round. The students had the opportunity to experience the process of interview and it was well received. The student coordinators were Aamir Pasha and Anusha and the faculty coordinators were Mrs. V.Padmapriya and Mr. Girish K.

6. Fishing Expedition The event was a mix of technical and non-technical treasure hunt where each clue redirected to another and the team which was quick enough to crack all the clues were declared as winners. The student coordinators were Anitha B and Prajwal and the faculty coordinators were Dr. Ch Ram Mohan Reddy and Mr Raghavendra Rao R V

MCA Department Stall The department stall had the best projects of our department and we had about 100+ visitors for the stall. The student coordinators were Rohan Singh and Jayanth and the faculty Coordinator was Mr M Sivaramakrishna.

Societal Activities

Aug 03, 2019: A talk on “Akshaya Patra Foundation & its Youth Initiatives” by Ashwini, Project Coordinator, Akshaya Patra Foundation, to create awareness how MCA students can take part in Akshaya Patra activities.

Aug 11-14, 2019: Ganesha, Praveen, Sagar and Rohan Singh,3rd semester, MCA students lend a helping hand with Aikya Flood Relief and volunteered at Uttarakarnataka.

Nov 14, 2019 : BMSCE- AIKYA celebrated Children's Day at Government Girls Model Primary School, Basavanagudi.

Nov 17, 2019 : Bharath V and Raksha Babu, first semester MCA students participated in Aikya Connects with theme "Anything is Possible" at ISKCON, Bangalore.

Oct 2, 2019: Dr. D N Sujatha and Students of Computer Applications department participated in “No Plastic Campaign". AIKYA awareness drive on the role of plastic in environment pollution and mobilize people to reduce their 'plastic footprint'. Volunteers exhibited a huge artwork made of plastic waste in partnership with the South Western Indian Railways at Yeshwanthpur Junction Railway Station.

December 20, 2019 : Department of Computer Applications organized a visit to ISCKON-World's largest school

meal program providing food to almost a million children across 6 states everyday. This

visit was organized by R V Ragavendra Rao and M Sivsramakrishna for First semester MCA

Students.

Hackathon June 7, 2020 N Neha, Chiranjan S Kumar, Divyakriti Masaun, Ritu Toshniwal, Shalini A N participated in BMSCE Hackathon2020 under the guidance of Girish K and Madhav Murthy. Theme : Supply chain management of necessary commodities including Hospital assets/supplies etc.(Title – IRIS)

Activities in association with Alumni of B.M.S. CE - MCA course Aug 03, 2019: Department of Computer Applications organized a talk on “Habits for a Successful Professional Career” by Surajit Das, Consultant, Software AG, Alumnus, MCA program 2011-14.

December 21, 2019 : Mr.Sunil Kantilal & Mr.Shekhar alumni of MCA 2000-2003 participated in this event. Vardhini R

Placement Club Activities

Aug 22, 2019: Ganesha S, Gowda Pooja Umesh, Vaibhavi, Anamika Tripathi, Anamika and Rohan R handled placement club activities, MCA Department.

Aug 29, 2019: Anamika Tripathi, Ganesha S, Gowda Pooja Umesh, Anamika and Rohan R conducted session on coding(both C and C++) as well as aptitude and communication from Placement Club of MCA Department.

September 05, 2019 : Ganesha S, Gowda Pooja Umesh, Vaibhavi, Anamika Tripathi, Anamika and Rohan R taken a session on Aptitude and Communication Skills from Placement Club, Computer Applications department.

Sep 26, 2019 : Placement Club, Computer Applications department conducted a session on Programming, Aptitude and Communication Skills for third semester students. This interactive session was handled by Ganesha S, Gowda Pooja Umesh, Vaibhavi, Anamika Tripathi, Anamika and Rohan R. Students were asked to work on Hanker Rank and implement in any programming language. Finally, students were given aptitude test on quantitative and current affairs on “Kahoot!” on their systems. For communication some real time scenarios was given and asked them to give the solutions.

Sep 26, 2019 : Mr. Raghavendra Rao R V informed about the importance of various activities of Placement Club, Computer Applications Department for first semester students. Then session was handled by Sharmila T, Vaibhavi M.N and Vardhini R. In this session multiple choice questions regarding coding and interacted with them for the purpose figuring out volunteers for handling placement activities for first semester MCA.

Oct 3, 2019 : Sharmila T, Vaibhavi M.N and Vardhini R third semester MCA students conducted placement activity for first semester students. This session focused on C programs, to enhance programming skills.

Oct 10, 2019 : Placement Club, Computer Applications department conducted a session on problem solving for first semester MCA students. This session was handled by Hashmitha S, Raksha S Babu, Anmol Kumar Singh and Bharath V.

Oct 10, 2019: A session on HackerRank and Aptitude was was conducted for third semester MCA students. This session was held as a part of Placement Club, handled by Ganesha S, Gowda Pooja Umesh, Anamika Tripathi.

Oct 13, 2019 : Rohan Singh, Shamanth M and Praveen Bhaskar Devadiga, students of third semester MCA, participated in Infotsav-2K19, national level IT fest, organized by Department of Computer Applications, JSS Science and Technology University, Mysore during 12th and 13th October 2019.

Oct 24, 2019: Hashmitha S, Raksha S Babu and Likhith B R, MCA first semester conducted group discussion from Placement Club.

Nov 14, 2019 : Anamika Tripathi, Vaibhavi M N, Vardhini R, Sharmila T, Anamika and Rohan R students of MCA third semester conducted a session on Programing through test cases & Communication Skills.

Nov 7, 2019 : Third semester MCA students Rohan R, Anamika, Ganesha S, Gowda Pooja Umesh and Anamika Tripathi handled a session on Coding and Communication Skills from Computer Applications Placement Club.

Nov 21, 2019 : Hashmitha.S, Raksha.S Babu, Anmol kumar and Likhith.BR handled a session on C programs. The students were given the opportunity to improve their programming skills. After the Coding session we conducted Group Discussion among the students to enhance their communication skills and to create a general awareness.

Nov 27, 2019 : Mr. Raghavendra Rao R V facilitated an interaction with industry experts from SonicWall (india) Pvt Ltd, Bangalore for fifth semester MCA students. Students grabbed this opportunity and six top performed students got internship offer from SonicWall with stipend.

Nov 28, 2019 : Anmol Kumar Singh, Raksha S Babu, Madhushree D and Bharath V session to improve their programming skills and discussed the possible outcome of the program. Pick And Speak session was conducted among the students to enhance their communication.

Dec 05, 2019 : Hashmitha.S, Bharath V, Anmol kumar and Likhith.BR, students of first semester MCA students handled a session on C programs and group discussion.

December 12, 2019 : First semester students Anmol Kumar Singh, Hashmitha S, Madhushree D and V Bharath handled activities of placement club.

February 5, 2020: Hashmitha.S, Bharath.V, Raksha.S.Babu, Madhushree.D and Likhith.BR handled a session on C programs and discussed few MCQ questions based on C for second semester MCA students.

February 5, 2020 : A session on Resume Writing was held from placement club for the students of fourth semester MCA students and R V Raghavendra Rao given information regarding campus placements and rules.

February 12, 2020: Ganesha S, Gowda Pooja Umesh, Vaibhavi, Anamika Tripathi, Anamika, Rohan R and Sharmila T, fourth semester students of MCA conducted a session on Aptitude. They were made to attend aptitude on “youth4work.com” on their systems. Students were asked to take online Aptitude test, which were categorized based on the company’s in youth4work.com.

February 26, 2020 : Placement Club and BMSCE IEEE-WiE-SB wing of the department of Computer Applications organized a workshop on “Effective Resume Writing and Interview Skills”. This talk was delivered by Mrs. Vidya Ramaprasad, Freelance trainer in soft skills for the 4th semester students.

February 27, 2020: A talk on "Career in Technical Communication" by Sandhya Ranganathan.

Cultural Club Activities

February 8, 2020: Cultural Club, Computer Applications department participated in ‘Dumb Charades’ by dividing whole class into two different teams and one team gave a movie name and team members played some actions based on that particular movie name. Then again opposite team members tried their best to identify the movie name.

February 15, 2020: Second semester MCA students participated in Kannada ‘Antyakshari’ coordinated by cultural activity club. By singing some Kannada songs based on chit obtained by random pick.

February 29, 2020 : Second Semester MCA Students participated in indoor game event Carom, sports complex and boys played cricket in the college playground.

Aug 02, 2019: Students and faculties of B.M.S. College of Engineering shared their view points on various themes in Youth Convention, titled “Effectiveness of Education” organized by Sri Ramakrishna Students home as part of Centenary Celebrations.

Aug 19, 2019: Harshith Gowda (1BM18MCA07) played Purahara(Drama) at K H Kalasoudha, Hanumanthanagar, Bengaluru. This drama is played by Ashwagosha theatre trust team and directed by Pavan N Karanprasad.

Oct 4, 2019 : Shreyas P Harle, third semester MCA student got 2nd place in Table tennis during Kreedotsav 2019 held during 1st to 4th October.

Aug 12, 2019 : Harshith Gowda played Madari Madhayya(Drama) at K H Kalasoudha, Hanumanthanagar, Bengaluru.

Nov 06, 2019 : Dr. D N Sujatha along with fifth semester MCA students participated in Grace Hopper Celebrations India 2019, which was held at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre.

Nov 26, 2019 : Shreyas P. Harle, MCA third semester student represented BMSCE and won Third place in VTU Inter-Zone Table Tennis Tournament held at BMSCE from 26th-28th November 2019.

January 24, 2020: Nishanth Bhat PL, fourth semester MCA student invited to judge the Web Prism, (Web Designing Event) in SYGMA 2020 (State Level IT Fest) organized by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Business Management, Mangalore.

March 2, 2020: Ganesha S, Chathur S Suryavamshi Masood Ahmed and Shreyas P Harle, IV Sem MCA students participated in Microsoft Impact India Hackathon held on 29th Feb. A prototype to convert Hand sign to text and Speech was developed to help Dump people. Team received 4th best idea.

April 17, 2020: Yang Pan, Vijayakumar Kadappa, Shankru Guggari,Chapter 15 - Identification of road signs using a novel convolutional neural network, Editor(s): G.R. Sinha, Jasjit S. March 3, 2020: Girija K V(1BM17MCA16) and team received first prize for interns Hachathon- “New ideas and Passion” theme at Ellucian Values. This is accomplished by Girija and along with other interns Navyashree G B, Prakruthi Shekar, Srinica Hampi, Veena L. Ten teams participated in this 1 ½ day hackathon. 33 interns – 8 teams completed great ideas with the help of the mentors. Team members presented Proof of Concept(PoC) Counsellor Assist PRO. This PoC works as a mental health screening tool by identifying patterns in student’s voice and speech clippings and looks for triggers and indicators that are commonly is used to specify mental illness.

30th -31st Aug, 2019 : Dr D N Sujatha and V. Padmapriya were part of organizing committee of the Women in Engineering International Leadership Summit 2019 (WiE ILS 2019). Dr. Sujatha served as Chair and Padmapriya was Website Co-Chair for this summit. Dr B V Ravishankar, Principal of BMSCE, delivered a talk on "Challenges & Opportunities for Growing Professional Leaders" under the leadership track in WiE ILS 2019. MCA students also volunteered this event.

February 9, 2020: Student chair Vardhini R, and V Padmapriya, faculty advisor for BMSCE-IEEE WiE-SB attended the “Parichaya” (the annual Branch coordinators and student chair meeting for WiE-SB) event organized by the IEEE Bangalore section at BNMIT, Bangalore.

February 21, 2020: Rohan R, Sandeep Verma N and M Siva Rama Krishna published a Paper titled "Blockchain-Based Solution for Physical Asset” received Best Paper Award in IEEE International Conference- ICOMBI 2020 from Feb 21st to 22nd on Blockchain Implementation Mainstream.
