BMSSAgenda’s for SuccessPolicies & Procedure

Why should I use a planner?

1) Zeroes and late work penalties really drag down your grade. In fact, your final grade can drop a whole letter by the end of the nine weeks if you forget even a few assignments.

2) Did you know??? Your parents can receive e-mail updates on your grades. How great is that?! Not so great if you have zeroes and late work.

3) You and your classmates have more to remember these days. You are more involved and more committed to academics, extra-curricular sports, fine arts activities, volunteer and social activities than any generation that has come before you.!!

Writing it down and organizing it all on a calendar will save you tons of time and embarrassment!!

You can’t just write it down!

If you only write it down---- and never look at it again, its not going to do you any good! OPEN YOUR AGENDA WHEN YOU GET HOME!!

You might remember some of what you wrote, but it’s gonna be real difficult to remember all of it!! So write it down, take it home and look at it!!

What can I do to make my agenda work for me?

Decorate your agenda Give it style and pizzazz. This also makes it highly identifiable if you somehow allow it to leave your possession.

WRITE your name on your agenda!!!

KNOW what’s in it: Most important, our agenda’s have the BMSS A/B schedule in them and the BISD school calendar (let’s check it out).

Daily routine!!

Make the planner a part of your daily routine. Carry it with you at all times and remember to check it every morning and every night (at the same time you are checking your text messages…how convenient)!!

Fill in your assignment due dates as soon as you learn them. This seems like a no-brainer, but if you don’t do it when you first get the information you may forget, don’t chance it.

Oh, there’s more?

Organize your planner entries Use color-coding to organize what you write in your planner. If you can’t read what you wrote or can’t find information, your planner is useless to you. You will see some examples of effective and not-so-effective ways to use your planner on the next few slides.

Put everything in your planner. Don’t forget to write down all commitments you make, so you can plan around them. This way, you can realistically see how much time you have to do your homework. If you think you are going to do your math homework and volunteer somewhere for NJHS service hours simultaneously, you are in for trouble.

Does your planner look like this?

Or worse… like this?

Here are two effective options…

Long-Range Planning

More helpful hints…

Use sticky-note tabs. You can buy sticky-note tabs and use them as markers to indicate important projects, tests, events, etc. This is a great visual tool that will help you say, “Hey, I think that little tab means something important!” Plus…sticky note tabs are just cool.

Taking care of your planner…

As we said before, a decorated planner is more difficult to lose permanently. At the very least, for you minimalists, put your NAME on it in permanent marker on the front, back, and inside.

Don’t take the plastic spiral binder out or it will FALL APART.

Each student is required to bring his/her agenda to school for

EVERY class EVERY day The agenda itself should be kept in your three ring

binder and carried in your backpack.

In every class you will be expected to have completed your agenda during the first 5 minutes!!

Study hall teachers will be checking agenda’s daily for written lessons and homework, guiding you towards completion of assignments and organization.

Your parents will also be checking your agenda.
