JOB POINT PROGRAMS & SERVICES Training / Proprietary SchoolPrepares individuals for employment in a specific field. Current offerings include: Office Technology (Basic Clerical, Accounting/Computing, Secretarial Refresher and Medical, Legal or Executive Administration), Office Support Specialist, Retail Sales, Carpentry, Highway/Heavy Construction (HHC), Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC), and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Employment Services Equips individuals with the tools for a successful job search. Group discussion and individualized instruction facilitate the best matching of interests, skills and experiences with employer needs. Once employment is secured, follow-up support is extended for job retention.

Employment Services with SupportsAssists individuals with significant disabilities to identify appropriate work goals and secure and successfully retain employment. Ongoing support is provided during job tryouts, work readiness, development of employment opportunities, coaching and long term follow-up services.

Columbia Builds Youth (CBY)Assists disadvantaged youth to advance educational levels, obtain skills training in the construction field, develop leadership abilities and advance towards high growth, high-demand occupations. Participants build affordable housing in our community’s most impoverished neighborhoods and improve public infrastructure.

Civic Youth Corps (CYC)Addresses the needs of juvenile offenders through volunteer work and academic enrichment. Community service projects are planned around the participants’ vocational goals and high-demand or emerging occupations.

Community Housing DevelopmentAddresses the deficit of affordable housing. With assistance from the City of Columbia, Job Point’s CBY students construct new homes for sale to income-eligible individuals and families. Participants also assist other community organizations with construction and rehabilitation of homes and other structures.

Banquet. Home Depot was selected as Employer of

the Year. Boone County Na-tional Bank was acknowledged as

Partner of the Year. Fred DeMarco was recognized as Volunteer of the Year.

Becki Schnell was Job Point’s Employee of the Year.

Job Point was the recipient of the 2013 Columbia Values Diversity group award.

CARF International confirmed Job Point’s 12th consecutive Three-Year Accreditation for Employee

Development, Employment Skills Training, Commu-nity Employment Services, and Employment Planning programs. This outcome represents the highest level of accreditation, and shows substantial conformance to the established standards.

Heart of Missouri United Way allocations provided skills training for high-risk older youth, including CBY partici-pants. As a funded partner, Job Point once again achieved Pacesetter status in its internal United Way employee campaign, with 100% eligible staff participation. United Way of Central Missouri funded an economical vehicle to assist with transportation needs of persons served in the Jefferson City area.

In the spirit of community, Job Point staff volunteered with the Show-Me State Games for the fourteenth consecutive year. Job Point employees also spon-sored a family through the Voluntary Action

Center’s holiday gift program for the fifth season in a row. Staff also participated in the Susan

G. Komen Race for the Cure.

As a Partner in Education with Douglass High School, Job Point staff provided

presentations to students regard-ing services and job shadow-

ing opportunities, assisted with a fall job fair and

conducted mock interviews.

A City of Columbia Community Develop-ment Block Grant was approved for skills training scholar-ships in the areas of Heating, Ventilation & Air Condition-ing (HVAC) and Pharmacy Technician. Additionally, City Community Services funding allowed continuation of our Job Works program, offering employment assistance for residents who are economically disadvantaged.

Job Point was awarded $125,000 in fifty percent Youth Opportunities Program (YOP) tax credits from the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Contributions will help support high-risk, 17-21 year olds on their path to life transformation.

Tania Cook, Advisor/Skills Training Coordinator, was honored by her alma mater, Truman State University, as the 2013 Bulldog Forever Volunteer of the Year. Addionally, Tania received the “President’s Call to Service Award”. Presented by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the acknowledgement was accompanied by a personal message from President Barack Obama. This ac-colade was initiated by the Columbia Elks Lodge 594, of which Tania has been a member since 2004.

CBY and CYC participants conducted a wide range of service projects such as working at local food pantry and re-sale shops; removing debris at City parks and construct-ing a rain garden to prevent ground erosion; building play-ground equipment at a local daycare center; conducting snow removal for senior citizens; working at the Show-Me State Games; landscaping and moving furniture at homes of veterans; planting a community vegetable garden; and gutting and remodeling Youth Empowerment Zone’s facility.

In partnership with Preferred Futures Inc, Job Point contin-ued Certified Nursing Assistant training in Columbia. Three classes were held in 2013 with 32 students graduating.

Through our alliance with Assistance League of Mid-Mis-souri, the 25th annual Comedy Night Show and Auction was sold out and raised a record $21,000 for Job Point. Job Point is deeply indebted to Fred DeMarco for initiating this remarkably enduring event and keeping it fresh for a quarter of a century. In addition, we recognize the indomitable Bob Pugh for his many years of serving as a comedian.

Melanie Bolten was honored as the Award of Excellence recipient.

CYC, our restorative justice pro-gram for youth offenders, expanded its reach from Columbia to include Cole, Pettis and Montgomery Counties.

Columbia’s City Council awarded Job Point $34,725 to further our Affordable Housing De-velopment Initiative. These grant funds will allow Job Point to build one home in Columbia’s Ward 1, with CBY participants completing the work. Through this project, the house will be sold to income-qualify-ing buyers with down payment assistance available.

Highway/heavy construction training was offered in Columbia and Warrensburg. This training is possible through funding from Missouri Department of Transporta-tion through the Federal Transportation Administration, Missouri Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Missouri Department of Corrections and the Pettis County Community Partnership.

Job Point was awarded full affiliate status of the National YouthBuild USA. Gary Taylor, Director, currently serves as Secretary of the National Directors Council, the govern-ing body for the network of YouthBuild programs, and was invited to join the prestigious YouthBuild Directors Fellows.

The Missouri Department of Corrections awarded Job Point funding to continue employment services for individuals on probation or parole in the Fulton area.

Brian Cunningham of Moresource, Inc was crowned Columbia’s 4th local Celebrity Apprentice by Steve “The Boss” Powell. The event, featuring 16 contestants in four teams, raised community awareness and netted over $29,000 for Job Point.
