qualified to coach at the appropriate age. • The U15 Killarney Phoenix boys advanced to the final of the Coastal Cup on May

1. Their achievement guaranteed them a spot in the Provincial championships being held in July in West Vancouver.

• The U15 Gators girls won their Cup final 1-0 • U17 Booted Eagles boys lost in their Cup final • Spring Soccer registration was the highest total to date at 320 kids. Spring soccer will

SVSACS Report – April 2016 – Seniors Centre – submitted by: Lorna Gibbs, Pres.

We will pass a significant milestone on April 26th on our journey to get a dedicated Seniors’ Centre built in South East Vancouver. I hope you will make every effort to attend, if only for an hour, and see the presentations. Please examine them carefully and share your comments/questions with the staff members present. The Open House begins at 3:30 at Killarney (2nd Floor) and finishes at 6:30. It will be interesting to get feedback from the Community at large.

Some member have expressed regret that there is not a dedicated entrance/exit to the dedicated seniors centre and that it is not possible to drive seniors to that more accessible entrance. I expect we will hear additional comments when drawings of an easily readable size are presented. It is a great pity that a model of the facility has not been made to demonstrate accessibility to the centre. Meeting re development of housing in East Fraserlands – May 4th 5-8:00 pm at River District Experience Centre, 8683 Kerr Street The development of River District (once known as East Fraserlands) has progressed slowly since approximately 2003. The Official Development Plan, in its original form, was endorsed and supported by the Citizen Advisory Committee formed by VFK City Plan at City Hall. We had high hopes that the land provided for building social housing would actually provide social housing for low income seniors and families. However, things have changed and planners began referring to social housing as “affordable housing”. It has been difficult to understand and interpret plans as terms and definitions are fluid and continue to change.

In my opinion, this is important as what happens here could set the stage for future developments and social housing in our City. I hope you will attend. Changes include: • Change in location of child care facility • Conversion of Shell facility to full service gas station • Modification of Affordable Housing definition and family housing requirements Questions or comments can be made to: Project Manager, Kirsten Robinson 604-871-6889 or [email protected]

Seniors’ Hub – SouthVan Neighbourhood House – Grant SVSACS is happy to congratulate the Seniors Hub on their successful grant application to secure funding to continue to expand their programs. National New Horizons for Seniors project was successful and SVNH will be receiving approximately $673,000 over three years. This funding will enable SVNH to develop the seniors hub model with Cedar Cottage and Mount Pleasant neighbourhood houses by providing resources to hire staff and coordinate their local hub development
