They will be publishing recipes that members have prepared for the family meals and receptions each month.

The current Board of Stewards Executive Board is as follows:Trent Foreman, Chair Cindy English, Vice-Chair Brad Burleson, Secretary

When does the Board of Stewards meet? The Board meets quarterly every year. The first three meetings are to discuss any changes that may have happened since the previous meeting and to hear reports from committees and staff members about upcoming programs and events. The fourth meeting is known as the Charge Conference. According to the United Methodist Constitution, the District Superintendent traditionally presides over the annual Charge Conference. During this special meeting, the next year’s church budget is set, any changes in compensation of the clergy is approved, officers for the church are elected, and various other issues are voted on.

All Board of Stewards meetings take place on a Sunday evening in Cupp Hall of the Christian Life Center. The next meeting will be held this month on July 31. The Charge Conference will be held in the fall when the District Superintendent calls it to order.

What about the ice cream??Now to the good part.... An Ice Cream Social! The United Methodist Women will host an Ice Cream Social before the next Board of Stewards meeting to welcome Rev. David and Carol Moseley at 5:00 pm in the Christian Life Center. Bring your favorite homemade or store bought ice cream to the Christian Life Center and the UMW will do the rest! Donations will be accepted to support the Open Door Project at Jones Mill for backpacks this fall. All are welcome to stay for the Board of Stewards meeting at 5:30 pm.

Dear Church Family,

It seems unreal that I’m writing my last article as Minister of Contemporary Music at First UMC Hot Springs. I feel like it was yesterday that I walked into my new office that Dale and Bridgette Kinchloe were still painting, and starting unpacking my things. Many seasons have come and gone, and God has called the Lovelady’s into

a new season of ministry. Sometimes He has a way of making you think that you’re going to do one thing, and then He “springs” something else on you when you least expect it. But you don’t ask why, you just follow.

While I am excited about the new position, I will deeply miss the great congregation of FUMC Hot Springs. This church has come alongside the Lovelady family in ministry for 9 1/2 wonderful years. We have developed special relationships within

this church. Relationships we will keep for a long time. The staff at FUMC is incredible. They have been a family to my family. They have encouraged us, supported us and helped us whenever we’ve had a need. I will miss the laughs around the meeting table, but mostly

We said farewell to two of our cherished staff members in June 2016. Rev. Michael and Judy Mattox have moved to Michael’s new appointment in Rogers, Arkansas, and our Director of Contemporary Music is moving to Piney Grove Methodist Church to lead their choral music program. The staff of First United Methodist hosted individual farewell lunches for both Michael and Mike. The Staff Pastor Relations Committee hosted a reception for Mike after church services on June 19, and Rev. Michael said goodbye to the congregation in an informal receiving line on his last Sunday, June 26. If you would like to stay in touch with Rev. Michael Mattox, you can reach him at his email address, [email protected]. Below is a farewell address from Mike Lovelady and his family, as well as pictures from the receptions and lunches.

Saying Goodbye

Saying Goodbye I will miss locking arms with an incredible group of people and doing ministry sided by side. Rev. Mattox has been a very big blessing to our family, more than people realize. He has always looked out for our best interest and has encouraged Kelley, myself, and my three children in everything we’ve done. I will always be grateful to him and Judy.

My time here at First Hot Springs has been full of love, learning and growth. I will miss leading worship in The ConneXion each Sunday. A lot of the members of the Praise Team were here from day one, and their dedication of the Praise Team each week is off the charts. They love leading worship, because they love to worship. I will miss the small but very talented group known as Underground Youth Worship Arts. What a blessing to see them learn and plan worship. Their Spirit

is inspirational. When they head to college and beyond they will be able to be active in their church’s worship ministry because of the experience they gained in planning and implementing worship. That’s worth everything to me! I have loved leading, along with Kelley, the last 9 Camp Jam-A-Lotta Music Camps. I love to hear children sing and lift up their praises, while also coming to realize how special they are in God’s eyes.

Writing this letter is hard. There’s a side of me that wants to stay and see what God will do next, but at the same time you know that there’s something new that He’s calling you to. Great things are in store for this church, there is not a doubt in my heart about that. There may have been a building that went down (Howard Johnson’s), but there’s a kingdom rising up at FUMC. God’s making room for it. There are still many lives to be changed and that need to hear about the God that loves them more than they’ll ever know. You are in an incredibly strategic area to make an impact.

The Lovelady’s will continue to live in Hot Springs, so I do look forward to seeing the kind folks of First Church around town, in the grocery stores, restaurants, and other places. Thank you for a blessed time of ministry here, this church has a very special place in my heart.

God bless,

Mike,Kelley,Brandon, Kristen,andLauren Lovelady

If you, a loved one or a friend is undergoing an illness, grief, divorce or other life changing situation, we are here to help. We have many caring ministries of this church that can provide opportunities for prayer and healing. For questions, to volunteer, or to be involved with any of these caring ministries, call Rev. Teresa.

Stephen Ministry Our Stephen Ministers are provided extensive training to be a listening ear for someone who is suffering, lonely or in need of special attention. Stephen Ministers are not counselors but instead a Christian presence to be with someone during difficult times. Our Stephen Ministers also provide hospital visitation, volunteer to pray with our Open Arms Food Pantry guests, and are volunteer chaplains for community help organizations. If you would like a Stephen Minister for you or someone you know, contact the church office. (501) 623-6668

Knitwits This wonderful ministry meets once a month and many in our church provide these handmade items as a tangible representation of love to those undergoing difficult situations as well as young babies

and their families. The Knitwits supply prayer shawls for those who are suffering illness or grief and are prayed over by those creating and those delivering the shawl; crocheted and knitted hats are provided to the Genesis Cancer Center and anyone who is undergoing chemotherapy; Baby Blankets are given to the family of babies or young children who are baptized in our church; and Layette sets are provided to community organizations who assist young mothers. To ask for a prayer shawl you may contact the church office or Joyce Thornton. Hats are also readily available by contacting Joyce Thornton. (501) 624-0946

Anointing Ministry Every Communion Sunday, Anointers are available at the front of the Sanctuary to anoint during communion. You may ask for healing for you, family member, or friend. All healing is of God. The Church’s healing ministry in no way detracts from the gifts God gives through medicine and psychotherapy. It is no substitute for either medicine or the proper care of one’s health. Rather, it adds to our total

resources for wholeness. Healing is not magic, but underlying it is the great mystery of God’s love. Those who minister spiritual healing are channels of God’s love. Although no one can predict what will happen in a given instance, many marvelous healings have taken place. God does not promise that we shall be spared suffering but does promise to be with us in our suffering. Trusting that promise, we are enabled to recognize God’s sustaining presence in pain, sickness, injury, and estrangement. Likewise, God does not promise that we will be cured of all illnesses; and we all must face the inevitability of death. A Service of Healing is not necessarily a service of curing, but it provides an atmosphere in which healing can happen. The greatest healing of all is the reunion or reconciliation of a human being with God. When this happens, physical healing sometimes occurs, mental and emotional balance is often restored, spiritual health is enhanced, and relationships are healed. For the Christian the basic purpose of spiritual healing is to renew and strengthen one’s relationship with the living Christ.

WOW!!! The Child Development Center has been voted by the readers of the Sentinel-Record as the “Best Child Care Center in Garland County.” Thank you, First United Methodist Church for all of the years of support of the CDC – support that made it possible for the center to receive this honor.

Parents Echo the Sentinel-Record Readers: Read what parents of two five year old children who have been attending the CDC since infancy have to say about the program. Both children will be attending kindergarten at Lake Hamilton in the fall.

From Angela and Mike Long, parents of Lucas Long:Lucas was about 6 weeks old when he starting coming to the Child Development Center. We chose the FUMC CDC because we had heard good things about it. When I found out I was pregnant, I made sure to call and get on the waiting list. The CDC was at our church and we wanted a faith-based center for our son to attend. He has remained at the CDC because of the wonderful teachers there. They are like family to us. His teachers have known him for

years and have been special to us.

We have had many wonderful experiences while at the CDC. A few memorable ones include the Thanksgiving Program, the End-of-the-Year Program, the Pancake Breakfast Fundraisers, visits from the fire and police departments, visits from the librarians, Pajama Days, and chapel.

The experiences at FUMC CDC have prepared Lucas for Kindergarten as well as life. He was basically potty trained by one of his teachers, Ms. Vann (thank goodness!), he learned his ABC’s from Ms. Kendra, and he learned to walk while in Ms. Shannon’s class (wow!). His interest in reading has been enriched by Ms. Sherry and Ms. Janet. Through the CDC, he has learned many of his basics for Kindergarten, as well as how to interact socially with children his age and other ages. He is used to the classroom setting and a schedule, which should make the transition much easier.

We consider the CDC for summer and school holidays. I am so glad that is offered! I have always told everyone where my child goes to school and will continue to encourage others to bring their children to the CDC. We are so thankful for the many wonderful people there!

Angela and Mike Long

From Scott and Melissa Kleusner, parents of Madalyn Kleusner:After doing our research and speaking with the specialist who inspects all child care centers in Garland, Hot Spring and Saline Counties, we found out that the CDC was the best center in the three county area. That’s when we decided to enroll Madalyn, who was six months old at the time, in the Child Development Center.

We have experienced such peace of mind knowing that Madalyn is well taken care of when we drop her off. She looks forward to going there every day. Since we both work outside the home, we will use the school-age program at the CDC during the summer and holidays.

We feel that Madalyn, who is an only child, has learned to socialize with both children and adults at the CDC. These experiences have not only prepared her for kindergarten, but also for life.

If we were asked by parents about enrolling their children in the CDC we would say that having Madalyn at the CDC has been a great experience. We would definitely recommend to other parents to take their children there.

Scott & Melissa Kleusner

Spirit Night Update Thanks FUMC for supporting Spirit Night. A good time was had by all who came out for Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A. Lots of chicken was eaten, fellowship enjoyed, and donations given. The CDC received a total of $502 in donations plus a percentage of the profits for the evening. The money will be used to decorate the classrooms in the children’s wing of the CDC once they have been painted.
