It includes a variety of genres to verbalise feelings & emotions we experience in our life.The Various genres of Indian Music are the following : * classical * folk * filmi * ghazals * rock * pop * devotional * patriotic India's classical music, including Carnatic and Hindustani music, has a history spanning millenary and developed over several eras. It has got its root from the vedas. Amongst these various genres, filmi songs is the most diverse.Nowadays, filmi songs are popularly known as "Bollywood songs or Hindi film songs".Hindi film songs came in existence from the first sound film Alam Ara (1931) by Ardeshir Irani which featured seven songs. Right from the advent of Indian cinema in 1931, Bollywood songs has been a decent feature in indian cinema.During the early periods, bollywood songs has its inspiration from manifold traditional sources such as Ramleela, Mahabharata, tamasha along with many others. But Over five decades, Bollywood Songs has made its presence felt as a prevailing attainment in the decorum of the nation and embarked to acquire roles beyond the limited purview of cinema.

Songs in Bollywood movies are delberately crafted with lyrics often written by distinguished poets or litterateurs (often different from those who wrote the film script), and set to music, carefully choreographed to match the dance routine or script of the film. They are sung by professional playback singers and lip-synched by the actors. Bollywood cinema is unique in that the majority of songs are seen to be sung by the characters themselves rather than being played in the background

From 21st Century, Bollywood music has taken a turn towards the pop music of the western nations.Nowadays, Pop Music has delineated youth rather listening to traditional indian music.

Pop music in India was also introduced before by famous musicians like R. D. Burman, Bappi Lahiri, Nadeem-Shravan, Kishore Kumar, Anu Malik, Anushka Manchanda from the All Girl Band VIVA , A. R. Rahman etc.

Now Bollywood Songs has gained reputation internationally. They are nominated for the oscar and also win this award.A. R. Rahman the Indian music composer won the Oscars for the best song and music for the pop song he composed named "Jai Ho" for the film Slumdog Millionaire.

Many singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Dey, Shamshad Begum, Shreya Ghoshal, Shubha Mudgal, Usha Uthup,Sonu Nigam, Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Asha Bhonsle, Md. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Shaan, Alka Yagnik, Suraiya, Kavitha Krishnamurthy, Anuradha Paudwal Contributed their best to Bollywood Music, Which gave it a new hype Internationally.
