ON THE HORIZON Monday 3 November and Thursday 6 November after school: Parent Teacher Meetings. We’ll be telling you about our School Development Plan and asking you to complete a Swipe and Type Exit Survey on the iPads. Monday 3 November – Opening the Wardrobe – Mr Sears style in Year 6. Geocaching around Bolnore Village. Children must wear a coat and sturdy shoes. Wet weather clothing if it looks like rain. Monday 3 November – Fairy Tale Dress up day in Year 1 and Year 2. W/b 3 November Up Up and Away Talk to Years 3, 4 and 5 by Mrs Allen. Big Balloon Send Off in Years 3 & 4. Monday 10 November – Where’s Wolfie? Stunning start to their topic in KS1. Tuesday 11 November – Remembrance Day. Planting bulbs around school. Year 6 trip to St Wilfrid’s Church for a Remembrance Service. 2 pm – New Reception 2015 Open Afternoon. Explorer Dress Up Day in Year 3 and 4. Friday 14 November – Children in Need Day – Dress up in your crazy patterns and bring in a £ donation. QUICK READS Governor Vacancies - We have some Governor Vacancies. Please email the office if you would like to receive the papers. Sports Premium Money – Alongside everything else we are doing to enhance sporting opportunities for all, we have an amount of money to spend on children who are excelling in sport. If you feel that your child falls within this category, please write a letter to Mrs Allen with details about your child’s sport and ideas about how you would use the money. Letters should be received by Friday 14 November 2014 for consideration by the Resources Committee. Academy Update – We have been informed by the Department for Education that as a new school we do not qualify to become a ‘stand-alone’ academy, ie an academy in our own right. This leaves us with the option to join an academy chain. After careful consideration, the Governing Body have decided not to move forward with this option at this time. We will remain a Foundation School funded by the local authority for the time being. Pupil Surveys by the School Council coming soon. Recruitment: Pioneer Child Care Club would like to recruit someone to be their Collections Supervisor here at Bolnore. £5 for 25 minutes work! Mr Sears’ App of the Week Mr Sears’ App of the Week Mr Sears’ App of the Week Mr Sears’ App of the Week This week: Tellagami Tellagami is a fun way to tell stories and is a particularly powerful aid for young children to verbalise their ideas before writing. It uses on screen characters and allows you to record short videos which you can then share in a range of ways. KS1 will be starting to use this lots after ½ term so it might be a good one to try with them during the break. Mr Sears has made a short video already! Apple: Yes Android: Yes Cost: Free! He talked about why belonging to a church is important to him and his family. He described his church and explains what happens there. He answered some very thoughtful questions from Year 3 such as “Where is the original Bible kept?” “Why is the Bible such a long book?” “What’s the most popular religion?” “How many people go to church?” Arif is also a writer and novelist. Thank you to Mrs Page for organising this visit. To celebrate the end of their topic, Through the Looking Glass, Beech Class held a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party! Thank you for all the contributions of Mad Hatter food! Outstanding outfits! Key Stage 1 held a People in the Community Dress Up Day. Can you spot the policeman? Who is in the building? They’ve been sharing new skills in Year 4! The whole school celebrated Diwali with an afternoon of activities linked to this special Hindu festival. Children cooked, made divas, acted out the story of Rama and Sita, tried Bollywood dancing and made rangoli patterns. Year 6 visited all the classes with their iPads and have made a film to send worldwide! Reception, KS1 and KS2 all took part in this term’s Sporting House competition. Reception tackled an obstacle course, whilst KS1 and KS2 turned their hand to Dodgeball. Everybody took part which was great and a sporting, will to win attitude was had by all. Well done everybody. Air and Fire are the overall winners with the points tally combined from Reception, KS1 and KS2. POPPY APPEAL We are selling poppies after half term. Children will be selling them in the playground otherwise pick yours up from the school office. ZIGZAG PARKING ZIGZAG PARKING ZIGZAG PARKING ZIGZAG PARKING A reminder that by parking on the zigzags, even for a few minutes, you are putting children’s safety at risk. We’ll be reporting… Football Tournament Round Ups: The Girls’ team did us proud winning their first match 3-1 against St. Wilfrid’s. Goals from Maisie and Carla took the girls into the 2 nd game with real spirit. The girls came close on so many occasions, but it ended 0-0 and then their 3 rd game (against Lindfield) saw them leaving the pitch still smiling, despite losing 3-0. They had secured a place in the semi-finals and a breathtaking goal from Jess J sealed 3 rd place in the tournament. Well done – Wembley here we come! The Boys’ football team produced a battling and spirited display on Wednesday. They were close to getting 2 great results but luck just wasn’t on their side. Next time boys, you will be ready! Governors were available to meet with parents in the playground this week. Points raised included school lunches, football costs and how happy parents were with the school.

• Governor Vacancies - We have some Governor Vacancies. Please email the office if you would like to receive the papers.

Reception, KS1 and KS2 all took part in this term’s Sporting House competition. Reception tackled an obstacle course, whilst KS1 and KS2 turned their hand to Dodgeball.
