Bill of Material (BOM)
The Bill of Materials is considered to be an engineering document that specifies the ingredients or
subordinate components required physically to make each part number or assembly. Or A bill of
materials is a list of the raw materials, sub-assemblies, intermediate assemblies, sub-components,
components, parts and the quantities of each needed to manufacture an end product.
In eresource, a Single level Bill of Material comprises only those subordinate components that are
immediately required, not the components of the components.
An indented Bill of Material is a list of components, from the end item all the way down to the raw
materials; it also doesn’t show the components of the components.
The BOM components in eresource support the use of the Bill of Material concept in a wide range of
circumstances where there is a tree structure of associated items. BOM can be generated in the
following forms:
 Material BOM
 Equipment BOM
 Order Based BOM
In each form, the BOM comprises a structured list that specifies what is needed in each of the
components – Name, UOM (Unit of Measurement), Quantity.
Definition of Bill of Material (BOM) in eresource:
Bills of Materials (BOM) are normally accessed according to production or procurement deadlines. The
History Management function allows several types of BOM to be managed simultaneously, and can be
operated according to the needs of the customer.
Single Level Bills of materials and Multi Level Bills of Material can be generated in eresource ERP. For
each manufactured line item on a Work Order, the system provides a bill of materials (BOM) and
routing.

Single Level BOM in eresource ERP:
In the single Level bill of materials only those subordinate components can be captured that are
immediately required to manufacture the product.
eresource ERP gives you provision to create Single level Bill of Material which is comprises only those
subordinate components that are immediately required, not components of components.
In the single level BOM master you have provision to plan that how much days will be required to
manufacture a particular BOM. Also you have provision to define what and how much Packing material
will be required for that Item Batch.

Multi level BOM in eresource ERP:
The multiple BOM concept aids the management of a variety of similar BOMs (variant problem).
Common components of similar BOMs are recorded in a 'Reference BOM-M' while components specific
to individual BOMs are recorded in a separate 'Single Level BOM-M'. In this way, the BOM of a given
material consists of a combination of data referring to common and individual components.
Standard BOM :
While making a new standard BOM eresource ERP gives you the provision of copy any standard BOM
from existing BOM or from existing Sales order BOM. You have facility to add any other material or any
other semi finished item in the new BOM you are making. You can also define the No. of days required
to process the batch.

Order Based BOM :
eresource ERP gives you the provision to create a BOM again the sales order of any customer. Again
you can copy BOM from any existing standard BOM or from any previous Sales order BOM. The data of
BOMs is automatically shown against the work orders providing the ability to include configured items
on a WO's BOM.

This gives the stores department to check if the stock of materials is available for a product
manufacturing or batch manufacturing. Once the individual customer order is entered, it specifies how
much components are required, the quantity including wastage and at what level of production the
components will be required.
eresource ERP Bills of Materials are completely integrated into the system and support:
• The procurement of materials at the optimum time (Material Requirement Planning module)
• The placing of production orders (Production Planning and Control Module)
• The issue of goods (Inventory Management Module)
Revision of BOM / Engineering Change Request (ECR) and Engineering Change
Note (ECN):
eresource ERP gives you the provision of Revision of BOM which is called ECR (Engineering Change
Requisition). With the selection of any item this form gives you the provision to zoom in the BOM by the
click on View BOM. You can make any changes on that particular BOM if there is any requisition came
for changes.

The Engineering Change Notice (ECN) module allows you to establish controls and manage the process
of making changes to documents and drawings, parts, Bills of Material (BOMs) and routings, work
orders, and projects. The ECN module allows you to:
• Create an ECN process flow with multiple ECN user groups and notification systems.
• Generate and track ECN tasks and apply electronic signatures for approvals and task completion.
• Track ECN and revision history on all parts, documents, bills of manufacture, work orders, and
projects.
• Maintain an audit trail of changes to the ECN record throughout the change process.

The Modular Bill of Materials:
A key use of bill of materials files is in translating the MPS into subordinate components requirements.
One bill of materials structure or architecture calls for maintaining all end item buildable configurations.
This bill of materials structure is appropriate for the make-to-stock firm, where the <PS id stated in end
items. For each end item, a single-level bill is maintained, which contains those components that
physically go into the item.

In eresource a solution is to establish the MPS at the option or module level. This intent is to
state the MPS in units associated with the ‘waist’ of hourglass. This necessitates that bill of
materials files be structured accordingly; each option or module will be defined fully in the bill if
materials file as a single-level bill of material. If the options are simply buildable subassemblies
as end items; that is, designate them as level 0, instead of level 1.
