Title Significance of Title The Nine Days is the number of days Dr. Manette will join Lucie

and Darney’s trip to Wales. Also, it is the number of days when Dr. Manette work on the lady’s shoe as he was when Lucie first found him on Defarge’s attic and he become the person he was when he was first release.

Plot• Dr. Manette is talking to Darney in his room

• Mr. Lorry and Miss Pross are debating of Lucie’s marriage and having final talks to Lucie

• Dr. Manette look pale after talking to Darney and Lucie takes his arm to the carriage and they go to the church

• After wedding, they went home for breakfast and Lucie and Darney say their goodbyes to set off for their honey moon

• Dr. Manette’s mood change and Mr. Lorry is worry about him and tell Miss Pross to leave him alone for the time being and he will come back after he visits Tellson’s Bank

• Mr. Lorry find Dr. Manette making shoes and he does not recognize him

• Mr. Lorry decides to keep it a secret for everyone especially Lucie so she will not be worried and he sent a letter to Lucie pretending to be Dr. Manette

• Mr. Lorry stays with Dr. Manette everyday to see if he gets any better and he tries to get him outside but Dr. Manette does not listen

• Dr. Manette didn’t get any better after nine days

Literary Devices Allusion: “For a moment, he held the fair face from him to look at the well-

remembered expression on the forehead, and then laid the bright golden hair against his little brown wig, with a genuine tenderness and delicacy which, if such things be old-fashioned, were as old as Adam” (Page 200)

Foreshadow: “He was so pale – which had not been the case when they went in together – that no vestige of colour was to been in his face” (Page 201).

Simile: “It was when they turned into the welcome shade of the cool old hall, that Mr. Lorry observed a great change to have come over the Doctor; as if the golden arm uplifted there, had struck him a poisoned blow. ” (Page 201).

Essential Quote

“Nothing would induce him to speak more. He looked up, for an instant at a time, when he was requested to do so; but, no persuasion would extract a word from him. He worked, and worked, and worked, in silence, and words fell on him as they would have fallen on an echoless wall, or on the air” (page 203).
