Transport optionsThe Hampshire Court Hotel is just on the outskirts of Basingstoke and is not easily accessible by public transport. We want to make sure that this does not prevent anyone from coming along and would like to ask for your help.

Train – collection/drop offThe hotel is a 10 minute drive from the Basingstoke Train Station. So we will be arranging transport (car or minibus) to collect people from and drop people back to the train station.

with a cheque or request for invoice. 4. We will then send confirmation of your booking. 5. Cancellation policy – a full refund will be given if we receive written notice of your

cancellation prior to Wednesday 26 February 2014.6. Booked places are transferrable to others within your organisation; please notify us

of any name changes in advance where possible.7. Note: There are limited places available for this conference. Priority places will go to

Hampshire based recreation and leisure activity providers and/or organisations offering activities as part of Hampshire’s Short Breaks for Disabled Children programme. This conference is subsidised through this programme to support these activity providers. These places will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

8. There will be a maximum of 4 places available to staff/volunteers that work at the same location. This is to allow for as many organisations as possible to attend.

9. Bookings from other individuals and organisations will be put on a waiting list. If places are still available when bookings close on Wednesday 26 February 2014 t these will then be offered on a first come, first served basis.

Will you be attending the FULL day? Please indicate on your booking form whether you are staying for the FULL day or if not what time you will need to leave. We understand that a few people may have to leave early due to specific commitments. This will help us with programming afternoon workshops.

Choosing your morning Interactive Sessions During the morning of the conference there will be an opportunity to attend two

Interactive Sessions. Please number in order of preference the Interactive Sessions you would like to

attend (1 being your first choice, 4 being your last). When you register on the day of the conference you will be informed which TWO

Interactive Sessions you have been allocated.

The morning Interactive Sessions are:

Structured networking Key inclusion topics will be discussed. People will move around and talk with different people throughout the session. A chance to meet new people and develop your ideas and thinking.

Young peoples experiences A chance to meet with a small group of young people to hear their experiences and what works best for them. An interactive session, so come ready to meet and chat with all those involved.

Snapshots of good practice Small groups will move around listening to snapshots of great practice from a number of inclusive activity providers. A chance to discuss and share ideas.

Activity Zone This will be an active session on the indoor courts doing a taster of one or more adapted sports. Also a chance to check out your skills in a sports or racing wheelchair.

The afternoon Workshops available are:Inclusion through fun and games – Philip Douch Philip will introduce a number of games and group activities requiring absolutely no equipment. The group will explore whether the games are inclusive and how to make them accessible to the widest variety of disabled young people. A fun practical session that will also broaden your understanding of what we mean by inclusion, teasing out underlying principles even if your own work may never involve playing games. www.activeimpact.org.uk

Maybe friends are the most important outcome of inclusion – Philip Douch Philip will explore whether or not it is enough that disabled children and young people can take part in our ordinary activities. How can we work in a way that goes beyond enabling people to attend ‘mainstream’ provision and actually supports the development of friendships? Philip will draw on the experience of those who attend as well as sharing the pilot work he is currently developing through a scheme called Bunches of Mates. www.activeimpact.org.uk

Challenging expectations of parents and activity providers – Sharon Smith, Hampshire Parent / Carer Network A jam packed hands on session where you will identify the hopes and fears of both activity providers and parents, and then work together to explore what happens when expectations do not match, in order to come up with ways for both to work more effectively together and find positive solutions. This is an exciting and interactive workshop session where you need to be prepared to both challenge and be challenged. www.hpcn.org.uk

An introduction to Makaton – Lorraine HounshamMakaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate.  It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order. This workshop will give an introduction to Makaton. www.makaton.org

Communication tactics with Deaf and Deafblind people – Rozwanna Banaris-Veale Learners will have an introduction to Deaf and Deafblind awareness and communication tactics with Deaf and Deafblind people, understanding barriers to communication and how to overcome them. www.sonus.org.uk

How do I cope with challenging behaviour? – Becky BolgerAn activity that focuses participants’ attention on how they can use their tone of voice, body language and facial expression to help prevent and de-escalate challenging behaviour. www.beckybolger.com

Exploring behaviour plans and risk assessments that can enhance disabled young people’s experience at your activities – Kim Steele Hints and tips of what type of approach and information is useful for activity providers to gain prior to supporting young people with additional and complex needs within your activities. This will be an interactive workshop with working examples of behaviour support plans and techniques that can be adapted at your provision. We will also look at how individual risk assessments can assist in this process. These documents can then help your staff teams to be more confident and your activities even more inclusive. www.kids.org.uk

Identifying sensory challenges in your setting – Sharon WilsonThis workshop offers the chance to gain an insight into the senses, environments, why it can be challenging for children with additional needs, what could be triggers for stress and what can we do to reduce these anxieties for children. The aim is for participants to experience an approach to teaching, which offers a mix of film footage, a perceptive hands on activity for one of the senses and interactive group discussions. All aimed to provide informative and insightful strategies to implement in your settings.www. sensecere .com

Having fun and staying safe: What you need to know about Safeguarding – Rachel Harrison (University of Winchester)This workshop is all about how to support everyone in your service to feel safe and confident while having fun. This includes children, young people, you, your volunteers and your staff team. We will cover topics such as; how and when touching is appropriate; how to work safely with children and young people in physical environments; how to protect yourself; and how using simple policies and risk assessment can actively reduce risks improve your service for everyone.

Low Cost No Cost Marketing – Daisy Brookman This workshop is aimed at anyone looking for new ideas on marketing with a minimal budget. How to produce effective newsletters, surveys and press releases, customer feedback forms, and loyalty programmes. Also get to grips with Twitter basics and learn how you might start using Twitter as a social networking and marketing tool. Take away tools that you can start using straight away in your organisation or business to increase inclusion.

Sustainable Inclusion: Fundraising and Volunteer Support – Daisy Brookman This workshop is aimed at smaller organisations or projects where every penny counts, where no donation is too small and any donation can make a huge difference! Out of the box fundraising ideas, and quick and easy ways to make a few extra pounds. Also learn the basics of recruiting, managing and getting the best from your volunteers and helpers. Take away tools that you can start using straight away in your organisation or business to increase inclusion. www.paviliononthepark.org
