“Bringing together creatives to perform musical theatre”.

Founded in Spring 2014, Night Project Theatre was established to bring together performers, directors and industry creatives to present musical theatre in intimate venues from either new portfolio or those undiscovered gems that deserve a larger

audience.

With the team that brought sell-out productions of ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’ and Musical of Musicals (The Musical!), Sweeney Todd and the critically acclaimed production of Songs For A New World and last years Night Project Theatre is delighted to be presenting Jason Robert Brown’s ‘The Last

Five Years’ as its Spring 2016 production.

Night Project Theatre works with both professional and amateur artists to produce small but beautifully formed theatre in a

collaborative environment.

As an independant enterprise we rely on our audience to keep the ‘Project’ going, so thank you for support. Please keep in touch

by following us on Facebook or Twitter.

We will be back at the Blue Orange Theatre in October with Frank Wildhorn’s musical ‘Dracula’, and working with local composers from the Midlands region we are currently involved in the

development of two exciting new works for the 2017 season.

A little bit about

25TH - 28TH MAY 2016

It is the counterpointing of exuberance with unashamed bleaknessthat makes this beautiful chamber musical so rich.

Crafted, as it is, with a literate wit and bitter sweet poignancy.

Jason Robert Brown’s intimate portrayal of the five year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein and Cathy Hiatt opens a window in to the lives of a

young writer and his muse just as love captures them and then lets them go.

Brown’s funny, poignant, and devastatingly honest two-person musical has enraptured audiences around the world with its spellbinding and emotional score and libretto. As the narrative unfolds, Cathy moves backward in time to the beginning of the relation-ship as Jamie moves toward the end; they meet only

once, at their wedding.

The Last Five Years premiered at Chicago’s North-light Theatre in 2001. The narrative was inspired by Brown’s failed marriage to actress Theresa O’Neill. O’Neill threatened legal action on the grounds the story of the musical represented her relationship with Brown too closely, and Brown changed the song

“I Could Be in Love With Someone Like You” to “Shik-sa Goddess” in order to reduce the similarity be-

tween the character Cathy and O’Neill.

In 2015 Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan starred in successful film adaption, but the strength of the piece is in its close up portrayal of Jamie and

Cathy’s relationship, and for that reason live thea-tre remains the best way to share in their 5 years

together.
