“Reading out of the best books stretches our mental muscles
and expands our horizons.”
―Thomas S. Monson, Religious Leader and Humanitarian
•
Whatever your level of homesteading, I’m hopeful these resources provided
in this Homesteading Resources e-file will prove helpful. The following is an ex-
cerpt from the resources section of our homesteading title, The Do It Yourself
Homestead.
Be sure to read clear through to the end for a special deal just
for subscribers on The Do It Yourself Homestead.
The lists of books and websites here should not be considered exhaustive.
Please do your own reading and researching to find the information that’s right
for you. No matter how I try, I still haven’t managed to read every word out there,
so you shouldn’t rely solely on me. I will say that the best resource homesteaders
have access to is each other.
On that note, much of what you have read in this book has been gathered as
a direct result of my interactions with many of the writers and homesteaders that
•
feature in these lists, and throughout the book. They have my gratitude and re-
spect.
As often as possible, I always suggest vetting any print material through your
local library before you buy it. If your local library doesn’t carry a title you’d like
to read, put in a request. This will tell our wonderful librarians that homesteading
is a hot topic and that they need to seek out more books to cover the need. If
you can’t read before you buy, the reviews on Amazon.com and Goodreads.com
are both a wealth of information when it comes to deciding whether a book is
right for you to try. Previously owned print books will be cheaper than buying
new, of course. If you enjoy reading books on your electronic device, bear in mind
that e-books are typically cheaper than print, as well. I’m a sucker for a print
book, especially with a book in which I’m going to want to take notes! I make a
mess writing in a lot of my books, I must admit.
Whenever possible, be sure to leave your own reviews on one or both sites to
help not only future readers, but the author as well. For example, if you have
anything to share about our title, The Do It Yourself Homestead, we’d really ap-
preciate and value your feedback at Amazon.com and Goodreads.com. Even if
you’d like to explain how we can improve the next edition, we’d love to hear from
you!
These materials are organized by chapter from The Do It Yourself Homestead
in alphabetical order. Some titles are listed more than once because they appear
in more than one chapter.

* May be especially helpful for smaller space homesteaders
Just like anything else you read, always remember that just because a “fact”
is on the Internet that doesn’t make it true. Having said that, however, it’s quite
a blessing to have access to so much homesteading information online. I partic-
ularly enjoy reading personal experiences, triumphs, and failures along with good,
•
solid facts. Take everything you read with a grain of salt and be willing to try new
ideas on your own homestead.
Also bear in mind that, while every effort has been made throughout this book
and here, in the resources section, to provide you with online links that I believe
will be around for the duration of the Internet, websites and blogs close shop all
the time, for various reasons. While each edition of the print book, e-book and
other electronic materials will be checked repeatedly for broken links and dis-
mantled websites, I make no guarantee that each recommended online resource
will be available to you. That’s why I encourage A LOT of print book reading and
personal communication, along with your online education.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Tessa Zundel is the homemaking, homeschooling, homesteading mother of
five children and wife to one long-suffering man. Although she has called several
states and properties home over the years, she now resides in the great state of
Missouri in the middle of acres of fairy forests and hidden ponds. She is the au-
thor of several books including The Do It Yourself Homestead and is the voice be-
hind the blog Homestead Lady. She has also contributed to online and print
magazines like Hobby Farms. She is an advanced master gardener and has
worked with several community groups in areas of home education, gardening
and seed saving.
Most days you'll find her hauling her good natured, adventuresome children
around to learn about herbs, small farm livestock, fiber and other lost arts, whole
foods and home education. There's always something being tinctured, fer-
mented, built or milked around here - just ask the long-suffering man!
Feel free to connect with me online—I’d love to hear how your homestead
efforts are progressing!

Because you’re family now, we want you to have all the tools you’ll need to pro-
gress on your homesteading journey. We don’t profess to have access to all the
tools, but we can offer you a discount on at least one we find valuable!
Our book, The Do It Yourself Homestead, is 400-page homesteading how-to
resource that was specifically crafted for the serious DIY student. We offer in-
struction, encouragement and advice from not just our family, but countless other
homesteading families.
The book details many topics that are close to a homesteader’s heart:
• The Homestead Kitchen
• The Homestead Garden
• Going “Green” on the Homestead
• Livestock for the Homestead
• Homestead Finances
• Homestead Families
• The Homestead Community
• Becoming a Prepared Homestead
The best part about this book in our humble opinion is that it’s written on four
different levels of homesteady-ness. Simply choose the beginner level, if that’s
where you feel comfortable. Or, start with the more advanced information and
challenges, if that’s what you’re ready for.
The Do It Yourself Homestead is offered in two different formats – print and e-
book. Today we’d like to offer you an exclusive discount on the e-book version.
