Our servicemen and women possess a unique and valuable skill set, and it is up to companies across the country to introduce initiatives that will help put them to work in the civilian sector.

•For many veterans, simply starting a job hunt can pose a significant challenge. The military instills in its troops an intense sense of unity, teamwork, and, in many cases, humility. These traits make interviews, during which a veteran must sing his or her own praises, feel extremely unnatural.

•However, when businesses do give veterans a chance in the workplace, studies have shown that the average veteran performs at a level 4 percent higher than non-veterans do. Additionally, turnover rates among veterans are lower, especially when they have support from a veteran colleague or from one of the many charitable organizations devoted solely to placing veterans in full-time positions.
