REFLECTION -

The disciples did not purge their group of ‘doubting Thomas’. They remained his companions, waiting for something or someone to be revealed to him.

Doubt and questioning are a normal and proper part of being human. We should allow for this within the community of the Church. A point may come where a person may no longer remain in the Church with any integrity. But a dismissive, excluding Church is not the Church of this gospel story.

Within the companionship of the Church a doubter may hear the words: ‘Peace be with you.’ What sort of peace? It is that inner assurance that, in the midst of all the tribulations and the turmoil and the myriad precursor deaths which we suffer on all sorts of levels, the Conqueror of Death wants to be with us.

How can the Risen Lord be with us? In Holy Communion, and in those count-ed as least in the world. According to Matthew 25, He is those without the necessities of life: food, shelter, medical care, comfort in distress.

We could pause for a moment to savour that Peace which comes from faith in the Conqueror of Death and in his Real Presence in Holy Communion and in those in dire need. © Michael Tate

After consultation and dialogue, and with the support of the Parish Priest, we have made a commitment to renew the Pas-sionist Family Group Movement in our parish. The date for the renewal and establishment of any new groups coming out of the renewal will be on the weekend of 18th/19th May. For this occasion, we will have members of the Passionist Family Group Team assisting us in our parish.

The motto of the Movement is a Family for All. It provides opportunities for individuals and families to be-long to a small network who gather regularly for various inexpensive outings. As these people get to know one another, they can offer practical Christian care and support, “In good times and challenging times”. More information will be provided in the parish newsletter over the next few weeks.

ENTRANCE HYMN

Out of Darkness

Out of darkness God has called us,

claimed by Christ as God’s own people.

Holy nation, royal priesthood,

walking in God’s marv’lous light.

Sing a joyful Alleluia,

Sing to Christ the risen saviour.

“He is not among the dead!

He is risen, as he said.”

We have died to sin with Christ.

We will rise with him at last.

Now the second Adam lives.

Now eternal life he gives!

Let your sadness be no more,

Christ has opened heaven’s door.

Death has no more pow’r to slay.

This is resurrection day!

APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

OFFERTORY

Gather Your People

Gather your people, O Lord.

Gather your people, O Lord.

One bread, one body,

one spirit of love

Gather your people, O Lord.

Draw us forth to the table of life:

Brothers and sisters,

Each of us called to walk in your light.

We are parts of the body of Christ,

Needing each other,

Each of the gifts the Spirit provides.

No more harm on the mountain of God;

Swords into plow shares.

Free us, O Lord, from hardness of heart.

Wash us, Lord, in the waters of life:

Waters of mercy, waters of hope

That flow from your side.

COMMUNION We Remember We remember how you loved us

to your death,

And still we celebrate,

for you are with us here;

And we believe that we will see you

When you come in your glory, Lord.

We remember, we celebrate,

we believe.

Here, a million wounded souls

Are yearning just to touch you

and be healed.

Gather all your people,

and hold them to your heart.

Now we recreate your love,

We bring the bread and wine

to share a meal;

Sign of grace and mercy,

the Presence of the Lord;

Christ, the Father’s great “Amen”

To all the hopes and dreams

of ev’ry heart,

Peace beyond all telling,

and freedom from all fear.

See the face of Christ revealed

In ev’ry person standing by your side,

Gift to one another,

and temples of your love.

RECESSIONAL

Behold the Glory of God

Behold the glory of God,

the Day Star arising!

Christ Jesus shines on the earth with

mercy enduring!

Let the earth in its beauty rejoice,

Radiant as the morning sky.

Chains of death lie shattered this night-

Christ’s vict’ry complete!

O how wondrous the gift of your love,

Tender gift on our behalf:

To redeem a slave lowly born

You gave us the Christ.
