EVENT PROGRAMME

AFTERNOON WORKSHOP 13.30 – 17.30

SEAMLESS DRIVE THROUGH BORDERS WORKSHOP

The EU is pressing ahead with its “Smart Borders” Programme – and in particular with the implementation of an entry / exit system (EES) and European Travel Information & Authorisation System (ETIAS) for third country visitors. Many border agencies are implementing EES and electronic traveller authority (ETA) systems in the air mode; but these are less common at land borders.

Meanwhile the UK has announced ambitious plans for a “digital border”, using modern technology to facilitate immigration applications and secure seamless travel across the UK Border after Brexit. This will include not just air mode but also passage by rail and ferry, including at the juxtaposed controls in France. How could these systems be developed at land and maritime borders? What obligations would apply to drivers and transportation companies (e.g. trains, coaches)? How could these align with traders for customs declarations and driver registrations? How can technology support these programmes? Presented jointly by IBMATA and Gatekeeper Security Solutions, his workshop provides an excellent opportunity for practitioners and policymakers to come together with industry representatives to develop innovative solutions to this challenge.
