• Purpose: Meet the educational and health care needs of rural America through the use of advanced telecommunications technologies Funding: $25M Awards: $500,000 max Match: 50% or more (recommended) Timeline: Apply in Feb-May, awards in October

FY2013 RUS-DLT Application • FOCUS: Mandate – By 2020, a minimum of 85% of Alabama nurses must have a
bachelor’s (BS) degree • CHALLENGE: Only 16 of the 46 nursing programs in the state offer BS
programs, a significant % of current nurses do not have bachelor’s degrees • SOLUTION: Tuskegee University will offer all courses over Distance Learning,
including off-hours use of school district sites and archiving of interactive classes for VOD
• Future Nurses of America Club, mentorship • Starting clubs in the school districts
• Allied Health & Career /Workforce Development • Expose students to careers in health care • Earn CNA Certification in HS
