The warnings and safetyinstructions in this manual can notcover all possible risks, conditionsand situations that may arise. Usecommon sense and exercisecaution when installing, maintainingand operating this or any otherappliance.

To reduce the risk of fire, electricshock, serious injury or death topersons and/or damage whenusing your dryer, follow basicprecautions, _ncluding thefollowing.

1. Read all instructions before usingthe dryer. Bosch dryers areprovided with Operating, Care andInstallation Instructions.

2. Do not dry articles that have beenpreviously cleaned, washed,soaked or spotted with gasoline,dry cleaning solvents, or otherflammable or explosivesubstances as they give off vaporsthat could ignite or explode.

To reduce the risk of fire, clothes,cleaning rags, mop heads and thelike which have traces of anyflammable substance, such asvegetable oil, cooking oil,petroleum-based oils or distillates,waxes, fats, etc., must not beplaced in the dryer. These itemsmay contain some flammablesubstance(s), even after washing,which may smoke or catch fire bythemselves.

5. Do not allow children to play on orin the appliance at any time;severe injury or death couldresult. Children should be kept asafe distance away fromappliances at all times. Childrenshould only be permitted within anappliance's vicinity if under close,constant adult supervision.

6. Do not allow children's toys, orother items that might encouragechildren to climb on the dryer, tobe stored on or in the dryer or onshelves or in cabinets or otherstorage areas adjacent to thedryer.

7. Do not sit or stand on the top ofthe dryer.

8. Do not allow anyone to climb, leanor hang on any part of the dryerincluding any protrudingcomponents such as theappliance door or a pullout shelf.

9. To reduce the risk of poisoning orchemical burns, keep all cleaningproducts out of the reach ofchildren.

Store all laundry chemicals andaids in a cool dry place accordingto the manufacturer's instructions.Make sure children cannot reachthem. Gasoline, combustiblematerials and materials thatproduce flammable vapors,flammable liquids, and substancesthat pose a fire hazard must not bestored near the dryer.

Keep pets away from the dryer.

BEFORE THE APPLIANCE ISREMOVED FROM SERVICE ORDISCARDED, REMOVE THEDOOR TO THE DRYINGCOMPARTMENT.

Do not place items exposed tocooking oils in your dryer. Itemscontaminated with cooking oilsmay contribute to a chemicalreaction that could cause alaundry load to catch fire.

3. The dryer must only be used for itsintended purpose.

Do not reach into the appliance ifthe drum is rotating.

Do not install or store thisappliance where it will be exposedto the weather or the elements,such as water/moisture, dirt,corrosive/salt air, and excessivecold.

4. When children become oldenough to operate the appliance, itis the responsibility of the parentsor legal guardians to ensure thatthey are instructed in safepractices by qualified persons.

Do not use fabric softeners orproducts to eliminate static unlessrecommended by the fabricmanufacturer.

Do not use heat to dry articlescontaining foam rubber (may belabeled latex foam) or similarlytextured rubber-like materials.Foam rubber materials can igniteby spontaneous combustion.

19. Do not dry articles containingspunbonded olefin. Spunbondedolefin can melt and can ignite byspontaneous combustion.

20. Check the lint screen before eachlaundry load and clean as needed.Excess lint buildup can damagethe dryer and create a potentialfire hazard.

21. Keep area around the exhaustopening and adjacent surroundingareas free from the accumulationof lint, dust and dirt. An obstructedport might reduce the airflow andcause overheating.

22. The interior of the machine andexhaust duct should be cleanedperiodically by qualified servicepersonnel.

23. Removing any panel or cover,including the light cover, mayexpose live electrical circuits.Always be sure to unplug the dryerfrom the electrical supply beforeattempting any service.Disconnect the power cord bygrasping the plug, not the cord.

24. To avoid fire hazards, do not usean extension cord, an adapter, orany other non-manufacturersupplied electrical connector orcord, to connect the dryer to theelectrical supply. Dryers requiresubstantial amounts of electricalpower and must have dedicatedelectrical outlets.

25. Always check clothing pocketsand shake out all laundry itemsbefore placing into dryer;

inappropriate objects can damagethe dryer and certain items likecigarette lighters can pose a firehazard.

26. To reduce the risk of fire andelectrical shock hazards, do notuse the dryer if the power cord isfrayed or damaged, or if the plugsare loose.

27. Do not operate the dryer if anyguards and/or panels have beenremoved or if any parts are missingor broken.

28. Do not bypass any safety devices.

29. Do not use a plastic or non-metalflexible duct with this dryer. Plasticor non-metal flexible duct is apotential fire hazard.

30. Do not operate this dryer until youare sure that the dryer has beeninstalled according to theINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSand that installation and electricalgrounding are in compliance withall local regulations and/or otherapplicable regulations andrequirements.

31. Failure to install, maintain and/oroperate the dryer according tothe manufacturer's instructionsmay result in injury and/ordamage.

32. To avoid floor damage and moldgrowth, do not let spills orsplashout to cause standing wateraround or under the appliance.

33. Make sure that all waterconnections to the dryer have ashut off valve that is readilyaccessible. Close the appliancewater shut-off valve(s) at the endof each day of use.

This appliance must be grounded. Inthe event of malfunction or breakdown,grounding will reduce the risk of electricshock by providing a path of leastresistance for the electric current.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSIntroductionRead these installation instructionscompletely and carefully. They will saveyou time and effort and help to ensureoptimum dryer performance. Be sure toobserve all listed warnings andcautions.

WARNING - Risk of Fire.

Clothes dryer installation must beperformed by a qualified installer.Install the clothes dryer accordingto the manufacturer's instructionsand local codes.Do not install a clothes dryer withflexible plastic venting materials. Ifflexible metal (foil type) duct isinstalled, it must be of a specifictype identified by the appliancemanufacturer as suitable forclothes dryers. Flexible ventingmaterials are known to collapse,be easily crushed and trap lint.These conditions will obstructclothes dryer airflow and increasethe risk of fire.To reduce the risk of severe injuryor death, follow all installationinstructions.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

In addition to these instructions thedryer must be installed in accordancewith all local codes or, in the absenceof a local code:

In Canada, in accordance with theCanadian Electric Code C22.1 -latest edition/Provincial andMunicipal codes and/or localcodes.

Information concerningwaste disposalDisposal of the packaging

Keep children away from theshipping carton and packagingcomponentsto avoid risk ofsuffocation.

All packaging materials areenvironmentally friendly and can bereused. Please dispose of packaging inan environmentally friendly manner.

Please ask your dealer or inquire atyour local authority about the bestmeans of disposal.

Disposal of the old appliance

If the appliance is no longerusable, pull out main plug, cut offpower cord and discard withmain plug. To prevent childrenfrom locking themselves in theappliance, remove the door.

Old appliances are not worthlessrubbish! Valuable raw materials can bereclaimed from environmentally friendlyrecycling.

Please ask your dealer or inquire atyour local authority about the bestmeans of disposal.

Before installing the dryerBefore installing the dryer to apreviously used ductwork system,make sure the system is clean.Professional ductwork cleaning isrecommended annually and also whenattaching your dryer to a previouslyused ductwork system.

Maintaining clean ductwork will reducedrying time and will improve dryingperformance.

Unpacking the appliance

The dryer is very heavy, Do notlift it by yourself. Do not lift theappliance by projectingcomponents (e.g. door) - due torisk of breakage.

Remove the appliancepackaging carefully to preventdamage to appliance surfacesand adjacent areas.

Check the dryer for transportationdamage. Do not install a dryer which isvisibly damaged. If in doubt, contactyour dealer.

Supplied components

After removing the packaging,immediately remove any objectsfrom the drum.

Installation location

DO NOT install the dryer:outdoors

in an environment with drippingwater,

near flammable materials,

in rooms which are at risk of frost,

in rooms which may contain gasor other fuels,

in cupboards with Iockable doors.

The installation room must be wellventilated, otherwise the dryer willoperate below optimum performance.Do not operate the dryer attemperatures above 104°F (40°C) orbelow 41 °F (5°C). Low temperaturesaffect the automatic program sequenceand may prolong the drying times.

The installation surface for the dryermust be clean, level and firm. Do notinstall the appliance on carpets!Compensate for uneven floors with theheight-adjustable feet.The size of the installation areadepends on the dimensions of thedryer. Ensure that there is adequateroom for the swivel range of the door!

1. T20 star head screwdriver

Checklist for Installation

1. Unpack the dryer.

2. Remove all objects from the drum.

3. Check the dryer for visibledamage.

4. Position the dryer near theinstallation location (see page 8).

5. If required, change the door hingeto the left (see page 9).

6. If required, install the side orbottom exhaust air outlet on thedryer (see page 19).

, Check for "Y" connection, shorthose and water supply hoseincluded with the dryer packaging(see page 13). (Selected modelsonly).

, Connect the water supply(selected models only) to the backof the dryer (see page 13 fordetailed instructions).

9. Install exhaust ductwork ifnecessary.

Follow the installation instructionssupplied by the appropriate

ductwork parts manufacturers (seepage 18)

D If space is very restricted, it is

recommended to fit the initial partsof the exhaust duct to the dryerbefore the dryer is moved to itsfinal installation location.

DO NOT push against the dryerdoor glass. Risk of breakage!

Do notpush againstthe door glass!

10. Move the dryer to its final location.

Do not slide dryer across thefloor if height-adjustable feethave been extended. Feet and/ordryer base may be damaged ifdryer is slid across floor withheight-adjustable feet extended.

11. Position and then level the dryer.

The dryer should be level with all fourfeet firmly on the ground. The dryermust not wobble. If the dryer is not levelor if it does wobble, the feet must beadjusted. Adjust the height-adjustablefeet using the 1 in. (25mm) wrench untilthe dryer does not rock and is level,both front-to-back and side-to-side.

Aftermakingpreliminaryadjustments,pressdownoneachcornerofthedryertomakesuretheunitdoesnotwobble.Ifpressingdownona cornercausesthedryertowobble,lowerthedryerfootonthatcorneruntilthefoottouchesthefloorfirmly.

Installthedryerandlevelitfromsidetosideandfrontto back.Usea bubblelevel.Neverremovetheheight-adjustablefeet!12.Connecttheexhaustducttothe

exhaustairoutletonthedryer(seepage17).

13.Insertthedryerelectricalplugintothewallreceptacle(seepage14).

14.Readtheoperatinginstructionstounderstandhowyourdryeroperates.(seepage20).

15.Conductanappliancetest:Checkthatthedrumisempty.Closethedryerdoor.Switchthedryerto "ExtraDry"andthenpressthe"Start/Pause"button.

After3 5minutespressthe"Start/Pause"buttonandopenthedoor.

Iftheinteriorofthedryerfeelswarm,thedryerhasbeenconnectedproperly.Switchthedryerto "OFF".Ifthedryerdoesnotwork,switchthedryerto "OFF".Lookinthetroubleshootingsection(page30)andfindthefault.

Door Hinge Reversal

The door is hinged on the right handside of the dryer at the factory. Thedoor hinge can be reversed ifnecessary.

Tools Needed

T20 star head screwdriver

Hinge Reversal Parts

Hinge (with 4 white plastic bushings)Hinge Cover PlateDoor Assembly

Hinge Reversal Procedure

1. Unplug the dryer.

2. Prepare a firm, flat, paddedsurface to lay the dryer door onwhile changing the hinge.

3. Open the dryer door to fullyexpose the hinge cover.

4. Remove the 4 screws holding thehinge cover in place.

removefourscrews

Set the cover aside along with thefour screws for later reinstallation.

5. Rotate the door so that it isperpendicular to the dryer front.Slide the door away from the dryerso the hinge pins slide out of thegrooves in the dryer door.

check tomakesure thatall fourplasticbushingsremain on

the hingepins

Avoid allowing the 4 plasticbushings to fall off the hinge pins.If any of the bushings do fall off,reinstall them on the hinge pinsprior to reinstalling the door.

6. Lay the dryer door face down on afirm, flat, padded surface, with thebottom of the door facing towardsyou.

7. Remove the single screw that washidden by the hinge cover plate.

8. Remove the two screws holdingthe striker cover plate in place.Hold the striker while lifting thecover so as to keep the partstogether in place and set theassembly aside for laterreinstallation.

9. Remove the single screw that washidden by the striker plate cover.

10. Remove the four screws holdingthe front ring to the door body.

11. Flip the door over so the front ringfaces up.

12. Remove the front ring from thedryer door.

13. The cover glass has a raised glassedge that goes about two thirdsof the way around the glass. Besure this raised edge faces uptowards you. Observe the positionof the leading edge of the raisedglass handle, marked in theillustration below as (A).

Rotate the cover glass 90 degreesclockwise.

14. Note the new position of the coverglass. The leading edge of theraised glass edge should havemoved 90 degrees clockwise fromits starting point as shown in theillustration below as (A).

15. Rotate the front ring 180 degreesso the door handle is now on theright hand side. The door handleis located on the inside of the frontring. It is a hand-sized indent.

16. Flip the door over so the backfaces up.

17. Reassemble the parts, preservingtheir new alignments.

18. Reinsert the single screw that goesunder the hinge cover plate.Tighten the screw securely.

19. Reinsert the single screw that goesunder the striker plate. Tighten thescrew securely.

20. Rotate the striker cover and striker180 degrees so the assembly fitsto the install area on the oppositeside of the door (where the hingehad been). Reinstall the strikercover and striker to the newlocation and securely tighten thetwo cover screws.

21. Reinsert and tighten the four frontring screws.

22. Remove the two screws holdingthe plastic cover plate over the lefthand hinge mounting position onthe dryer housing. Remove theplate and set it aside with the twoscrews.

23. Remove the two screws holdingthe metal door hinge to the dryerhousing. Remove the hinge fromthe housing.

Right Hand to Left Hand

24. Reattach the door hinge to thedryer housing at the left side of thedryer door opening. Tighten bothscrews completely, making surethey hold the hinge securely.

25. The door is now ready to bemounted back on the dryer.

26. Reinstall the dryer door by sliding itonto the hinge pins.Avoid allowing the four plasticbushings to fall off the hinge pins.If any fall off, reinstall them on thehinge pins prior to reinstalling thedryer door.

27. Reinstall the hinge cover plateremoved in step 4. Insert andtighten the 4 screws holding thehinge cover plate in place.

28. Install the plastic cover plate overthe original hinge position at theright hand side of the dryer dooropening. Insert and tighten thetwo screws holding the plate inplace.

29. Test that the door opens andcloses properly. The door shouldlatch securely. The hinge reversalprocess is complete.

Minimum Distances

Important information concerningminimum distances:

Depending on the location of theexhaust air connection, anadditional minimum distance of51/2inch (14 cm) must be providedon this side, the side theconnection is on, forducts/brackets (see page 19).

Benefits of maintaining greaterdistance (clearances) than theminimum shown include:

• more air cools the dryer, keepsthe dryer from overheating, andimproves drying performance.

• reduction of the risk of moldformation behind the appliance.

• reduced noise transmission

• facilitation of installation andservice.

If the dryer is installed in a smallroom, the doors of the room mustbe fitted with vents of the specifiedminimum size. Refer to thefollowing illustrations of enclosedinstallations for additionalinformation.

Allow additional clearance fordoor, wall and window moldingwhere necessary.

Water Connection

This section applies only to dryerswith a water connection. Theconnection is found at the topback of 500 and 800 SeriesDryers with the Steam logo on thepanel.

Attach the dryer water supply hose to acold water faucet (the faucet must belocated within 4 ft (1.2 m) of the waterinlet valve on the back of the dryer).

It is recommended to have a watersupply pressure of 20 100 psi (1.376.89 bar) for best performance.

Since most connections will share thecold water faucet used by the clotheswasher, a "Y" connector is providedalong with a short hose (if needed) inorder to connect the water supply hoseto the cold water faucet.

Steam Dryer Parts Supplied

The following parts are included withthe shipment of your dryer:

3. Rubber washer (inserted in femaleend of short inlet hose, shownseparately here for purposes ofclarity).

Connecting the Water Inlet Hose

D The dryer must be connected tothe "Y" connector using the watersupply hose provided. Do not usean old hose.

1. Turn off the cold water tap andremove the washer water supplyhose from the tap.

2. Check to be sure that the rubberwasher is fully inserted and seatedin the female end of the short hoseprior to continuing. The rubberwasher is shown as item 3 in thesupplied parts illustration. It isillustrated separately from the hosefor clarity.

3. If space permits, attach theinternally threaded (female) end ofthe "Y" connector directly to thecold water faucet (option A asshown in the illustration above)and continue to step 6

For optional Installation with YConnectorIf the "Y" connector cannot beattached directly, use the shorthose provided to connect the "Y"connector to the cold water faucet(option B as shown in theillustration below), and continuewith steps 4 through 5.
