- In response to Boston’s actions
-Parliament passes Coercive Acts in reaction

-suspended basic civil rights

- In response to the Intolerable Acts in early 1774.
- First Continental Congress was called in September of 1774.
- Meeting of representatives from all colonies to coordinate a protest against the crown.
