Enclosed you will find information on supplies you will need to bring. Your parts assignments for Percussion Ensemble and the daily schedule will be sent at a later date. Members of the Boston Symphony, Kyle Brightwell, myself, and a special guest will teach all the classes. Any questions that you have can be directed to Kyle or me. I can be reached at 617.901.5836, or Kyle can be reached at 571.228.9133, or by email: [email protected]. In addition to the classes provided by BUTI, private lessons will be available for $85.00/hr. by Kyle or me, which can be arranged at the beginning of the seminar or you can call before the seminar begins at the above numbers. I urge all of you to take at least one private lesson during the session. When you receive your ensemble music parts, please prepare as thoroughly as possible before you get to Tanglewood. Since we only have a few rehearsals, it is important that you spend the next month learning your parts. The enclosed mock audition list will be the excerpts talked about by Mr. McKay, Mr. Hudgins, and myself. These are the excerpts that will be played at the mock audition by you. This is an invaluable experience to play in front of others in preparation for the many auditions you will take. I would suggest that you try to listen to the recordings of these excerpts before you get to Tanglewood to get an idea of how they sound in their true context. You will need to bring the following items: A check made out to Tim Genis, Inc for $125.00 to cover various sticks, mallet wrapping supplies, and hand drums that will be given to you. Sticks and mallets for timpani, all mallet instruments, and all drums. Any small percussion instruments that you own (triangles, tambourines, castanets, etc.) Some sort of carrying case for all your music. Small and medium size sewing needles. Large good quality scissors for cutting felt. Small good quality scissors for detailed cutting A 12” ruler and a fabric tape measure. A black felt tip pen, as well as regular pens and pencils. A compass to draw circles White waxed dental floss. (Not Glide Floss) Black pants (no jeans), long sleeve black shirt, black socks and black shoes for the final concert. I am looking forward to meeting you and hope to have a fun and productive summer! Sincerely, Timothy E.
