AHA MOKU SYSTEM
Understanding the moku system by how it was managed during the konohiki period prior to western interpretation we set out in 2008 around Maui to gather information from the 12 moku's gave us tools to incorporate community based resource management practices and allowed us to provide recommendations to State, County and Federal agencies and pointing out the flaws such as spawning periods. Gathering rights, Water and accesses that are being cut off. 3

Moku Advisory Committee under DLNR

Purpose of Act 212
To formally recognize the Aha Moku System and to establish the
Aha Moku Advisory Committee within the DLNR
In July 9, 2012 Act 288 was amended and signed by Governor Neil Abercrombie which through
him nominates the selected moku rep
To serve in an advisory capacity to the chairperson of the BLNR
To integrate the Native Hawaiian cultural and traditional values into
the fabric of state policy.

• Always meet on a quarterly basis to assure consistency with government agencies.
