Big Ten Game of the Week: Ohio St. at MichiganSaturday, Nov. 28, 9 A.M. PT/12 P.M. ET (ABC)Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh and his Ohio St. counterpart, Urban Meyer, were born in the same Toledo hospital a year apart. They are both considered saviors of their respective programs at schools they attend-ed in some capacity. So it should surprise nobody that these two have their teams lined up in a rivalry game that has more riding on it than any in this iconic series since 2006. That year, then-No. 1 Ohio St. beat No. 2 Michigan 42-39 to earn a date with Florida in the national title game. The coach of that Florida team? One Urban Meyer, who spoiled the Buckeyes’ season. Harbaugh and company are seeking the same outcome this week, one week after Michigan St. laid the spoiling seeds by beating Ohio St., 17-14. That dropped the Buckeyes to eighth in the latest AP poll and put their defense of their national title, much less the Big Ten title, very much in jeopardy. The winner of Saturday’s meeting at the Big House will go to the Big Ten championship game – provided Michigan State loses to Penn State. The Spartans have the tiebreaker over both of their Big Ten East Division rivals. No. 12 Michigan (9-2, 6-1) hasn’t beaten Ohio St. (10-1, 6-1) since 2011 – its only victory over the Buckeyes in the last 12 meetings. Winning at Michigan Stadium hasn’t been a problem for the Buckeyes, who have captured five of the last seven games there. But overcoming a Wolverines’ defense that ranks second in the FBS in total offense yards allowed with an offense that has been inconsistent could be troublesome for Ohio St. and signal a shift in the balance of power in this series.
Pac-12 Game of the Week: USC at OregonSaturday, Nov. 21, 12:30 P.M. PT/3:30 P.M. ET (ESPN)With all the storylines inherent in one of the West Coast’s most enduring and storied rivalries, the latest edition features the not-insignificant fact that USC (7-4, 5-3) – turmoil-ridden season and all -- can still reach the Rose Bowl Game. All the Trojans have to do is beat their crosstown rivals for the first time since 2011, then take out Stanford in the Pac-12 title game. The same prospect awaits No. 22 UCLA (8-3, 5-3), which advance with its fourth consecutive victory over the Trojans. This burden of expecta-tions is the latest awaiting USC QB Cody Kessler, who makes his 39th start Saturday – and his 16th under an interim head coach. Kessler has never beaten UCLA, is playing under his fourth head coach and is the glue holding the Trojans together under interim Head Coach Clay Helton, who has reinvented USC into a power running team that has averaged 166 yards a game over the last six games. This is vital for two reasons: UCLA has sacked Kessler six times in each of the last two meetings – and Ore-gon dropped him five in last week’s 48-28 bludgeoning of the Trojans -- and the Bruins have had trou-ble stopping the run. Five conference opponents have matched or exceeded their rushing average against UCLA. While Kessler has never beaten the Bruins, UCLA QB Josh Rosen has never played USC, but even in the hostile atmosphere of the Coliseum, the precocious true freshman is unnerved by the opportunity to send his senior teammates off without the feeling of ever losing to the Trojans.
National Game of the Week: Notre Dame at StanfordSaturday, Nov. 28, 4:30 P.M. PT/7:30 P.M. ET (FOX)Stanford Coach David Shaw was so sick and tired of watching the Cardinal gain “only 20 yards,” that he went out and made a point to recruit speed, so those “20-yard gains” turned into “50-yard touchdowns.” How’d that work out for Stanford (9-2, 8-1)? The No. 9 (CFP) Cardinal have eight touchdowns of at least 50 yards or more and six more of at least 40 yards, are already securely in the Pac-12 Championship Game for the third time in four seasons and feature one of the most lethal big-play threats in the nation in RB/KR Christian McCaffrey, who leads the nation in all-purpose yards (2,807) and is second in rushing yards (1,546). Then, there’s Bryce Love, who averages 11.6 yards on his 37 touches, one of which was a 48-yard touchdown to seal last week’s 35-22 victory over arch-rival Cal. This is the kind of game Shaw was looking at when he made a concerted effort to get the Cardinal faster. No. 6 Notre Dame (10-1) has a defense right out of Short Attention Span Theater; the Irish force teams to go three-and-out 30 percent of the time, yet have allowed 18 plays of 35 yards or more. They can suffocate teams offensively for long stretches, yet lose focus enough to let Georgia Tech score two late touchdowns and Boston College to score 13 points in the fourth quarter last week in an uncomfortably close 19-16 victory. What may help Notre Dame regain its wandering focus is the fact it fell from fourth to sixth in the College Football Playoff rankings, that its missing 12 players who were ei-ther starters or significant contributors, and the five turnovers it somehow survived at Fenway Park last week.

The College Football Playoff Poll welcomes two new teams to this week’s rankings. Oklahoma jumped from No. 7 to No. 3 and Iowa moved to No. 4 after their 40-20 win over Purdue last weekend.
Ohio State dropped from the top-four after then-No. 9 ranked Michigan State upset them in Columbus last Saturday, 17-14. The win moved the Spartans to No. 5. Notre Dame, who was No.4 last week, fell to No. 6 followed by Baylor at No. 7. Ohio State, Stanford, and Michigan round out the top-10.
Once again, there could be more movement in the rankings with a handful of ranked teams and rivals facing each other this weekend.
Notre Dame heads to Palo Alto to play Stanford, while Oklahoma and Oklahoma State prepare for their Bedlam rivalry. Other rivalries this week include No. 2 Alabama and Auburn in the Iron Bowl, while Ohio State plays No. 10 Michigan in Ann Arbor. No. 12 Florida travels to Tallahassee to face No. 13 Flor-ida State. No. 17 Oregon plays at Oregon State in the Civil War, No. 18 Mississippi plays No. 21 Mis-sissippi State in the Egg Bowl, and No. 20 Washing-ton State visits Washington in Seattle for the Apple Cup. No. 22 UCLA plays at USC. The winner will face Stanford in the Pac-12 Championship.

The sophomore line-backer had six tackles and a sack to lead the Spartans to a 17-14 win over previously unbeaten Ohio State. Reschke and Michigan State held the Buck-eyes offense to 132 yards of total offense and 14 points, well below their 36 points per game average.

Adams completed 20-of-25 passes for 407 and six touchdown passes dismantling the USC defense in Oregon’s 48-28 win. The six touchdown passes tied a school record, and he connected with six different receivers for the score. Since his return on Oct. 17, Oregon is on a five-game win streak.

In a low-scoring defensive battle that featured 11 quarterback sacks between the two teams, the Big Ten Champion Ohio State Buckeyes ruined the Arizona State Sun Devils’ undefeated season with a dramatic 20-17 win.
After a back-and-fourth first three quarters, the fireworks started with 1:40 remaining in the final quarter. Arizona State’s Jake ‘The Snake’ Plummer capped off a 58-yard touchdown drive with an 11-yard run to give Arizona State the lead.
However, there was still time left for the Buckeyes offense and they took advantage.
With time winding down, Ohio State’s quarterback Joe Germaine found freshman David Boston for a 5-yard touch-down pass with 19 seconds to go. The ensuing extra-point attempt was blocked, leaving the Sun Devils down three points.
Next, Plummer and company took over after a 20-yard kickoff return. After completing his first pass, he connected with Lenzie Jackson who was tackled in bounds by Antoine Winfield as the clock expired.
Germaine, who split time with Stanley Jackson, was named the Rose Bowl Game’s Most Valuable Player. He com-pleted 9-of-17 passes for 131 yards and two touchdown passes. The win marked the first Rose Bowl Game victory for the Buckeyes since 1974.
