Hi, my name is Jamiya Pettway. My animal is the Box Turtle. In this presentation you will learn some interesting facts about this animal. The Eastern Box Turtle is the only land turtle in North Carolina. They have a long life span but are very slow to grow.

Instinctive and Learned Behaviors The box turtle homing instincts is to return to its birth place. They are more active at dawn and dusk and they burrow in

the ground for hibernation. If a box turtle gets frightened it goes in its shell. Their eyes are directed forward this gives them binocular

vision. They remember landmarks.

Facts

They feed on animals such as slugs, insects, snails, also they eat mushrooms, berry's, seeds, and leaves.

Young turtles hunt in ponds or streams. They mate between April and October. Box Turtles can live to be more than 100 years old. Males are larger than females and red or orange eyes. Females have brown or light orange eyes.
