BOX-TYPE WATERPROOFING OF BASEMENT FROM POSITIVE SIDE: Providing and laying waterproofing for raft, retaining wall, footings, etc. in box-type fashion as per specifications listed below with a guarantee period of 10 years: (A) RAFT & FOOTINGS (ON PCC BELOW RAFT/ FOOTINGS): 1. PCC concrete is poured below raft/ footing etc. and leveled using a wooden trowel by the civil contractor. Recommended concrete mix design for PCC concrete is M-15, i.e. 1 : 2 : 4 and minimum thickness of 6 inches. The 1 : 2 : 4 (M-15) PCC if poured in 6 inches thick layer shall give honeycomb-free leveled surface. The PCC is cured by spraying water over it periodically by the civil contractor. Alternatively, a mix design of M-10, i.e. 1 : 3 : 6 can be used for PCC, but a leveled surface, which is free of honeycombing, must be given by the civil contractor for the subsequent XYPEX treatment. This can be done by simultaneously spreading with a broom, a 1 – 2 mm thick, 1:1 cement-sand slurry over ‘green’ 1 : 3 : 6 PCC . 2. The PCC is allowed to set for a minimum period of 24–48 hours and then the PCC concrete surface is cleaned thoroughly. The waterproofing applicator has to ensure that the surface is free of loose material, dirt, dust, oil, grease or other foreign matter before the start of XYPEX treatment. 3. Any minor leakages on the PCC is plugged with XYPEX Modified Mortar (prepared by mixing 1 part Xypex Concentrate: 5 parts Cement: 10 parts quartz Sand)/ Patch ‘n Plug 4. XYPEX “Catalytic” In-depth Crystallization Waterproofing System is applied on the entire PCC below raft and the footings. The XYPEX Waterproofing System includes treatment of following joints with XYPEX Patch ‘ N Plug / Modified Mortar. o Between the PCC and the Raft along the periphery, o Between the columns and the PCC and o Between the columns and the raft 5. XYPEX “Catalytic” In-depth Crystallization Waterproofing System shall be allowed to set for at least 8–10 hours and then curing is started with misty fog spray/ wet cloth for 2 days at least 3 times a day. The “applied” area is barricaded during the curing period of 2 days. The XYPEX treatment achieves it’s full hardness in 2 days and cannot be abraded by walking, moving trolleys, etc. Reinforcement tying work by civil contractor can commence after the curing period of 2 days is completed. 6. Tying the reinforcement and casting the raft slab/ footing to be done by the civil contractor. Just before the subsequent pour of raft concrete, XYPEX Crystalline Material is applied to the entire thickness of the construction joint of the previous pour of raft concrete. (B) RETAINING WALL/ VERTICAL SURFACE OF FOOTINGS: TOP 1. The RCC Retaining Wall/ footings is casted by the civil contractor and allowed to set for at least 24 – 48 hours. 2. After de-shuttering by the civil contractor, the retaining wall/ footing vertical surface is cleaned thoroughly. The waterproofing applicator shall ensure that the surface is free of loose material, dirt, dust, oil, grease or other foreign matter, before starting XYPEX treatment. 3. Treatment of Construction Joints on retaining wall from outside : (a) ‘U’ shaped groove of approx. 1” (W) x 1” (D) is cut along the construction joints with a mechanized cutting machine/ chipping hammer. (b) The ‘U’ groove is filled/ grouted up to surface with XYPEX Modified Mortar/ Patch ‘n Plug after application of XYPEX Crystalline slurry @ 1 kg./ sq. mt. in to the groove. 4. Treatment of Surface Honeycombs on the retaining wall from outside: o Unsound concrete is removed up to sound concrete in a ‘U’ shaped cavity around the honeycombing.

systems available of varying cost, effectiveness, and installation invasiveness.specially used membranes in this field are protection board sheets. Basement waterproofing may be done internally and externally. Because basement foundations can be brick, block, concrete, and even wood, it is important to pick the right waterproofing system for the right foundation.
