The explosion of the Deepwater Horizon killed 11 men and injured 17 others. It is the largest oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry.

4.9 million barrels of crude oil, (210,000,000 U.S. gallons) was released into the Gulf of Mexico.

Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida coastlines .

In October 2011, reports show dolphins and whales continue to die at about twice the normal rate.

Thousands of marine animals, fish, and birds were killed by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
