On the first 2 days of school students will enter the building and wait in the lobby areas. When the bell rings at 7:25, students will report to their lockers and/or Pride classrooms. All other days begin with 1st period class.

● Parent pick-up, riding another bus, or walking to the public library requires a note from a parent by 1:00.

● Loading for parent pick-up occurs between stop sign and crosswalk at north end of the sidewalk.

● Students are not permitted to ride bikes to or from school

● If you are attending an athletic event you must go home at dismissal and return for the event

Dress for Success

● No “strapless” tops● Make sure clothing covers what it is supposed to cover● Shorts, skirts, dresses—”fingertip rule”● Hats or head coverings cannot be worn during the school

day unless approved by administration● Winter coats, hats, gloves, etc. are not to be worn to class● No slogans or pictures that are inappropriate● No pajama bottoms or boxers● See page 19 of the Brady Student Handbook for detailed

Dress Code

Lockers

Use only the locker assigned to you.

Keep your locker combination private. Backpacks stay in lockers during the school day.

School Supplies

With the exception of the following, supplies will be provided to students:

● Pencil Case● Trapper/Expandable● Calculator● Band Supplies (Band students only)

Chromebooks

● All students will receive a Chromebook to use at school.

● CBs are housed in a grade level classroom, where they are charged for use the next day

● It is important for students to follow the AUP and secure/care for their CB at all times.

A student may be excused from attendance at school for the following reasons, for up to 72 hours (10.2 days):

EXCUSABLE REASONS FOR ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL1. Personal illness, injury or disease2. Illness in the family3. Quarantine of the home4. Death in the family 5. Professional (medical, dental, legal, etc.) appointments; documentation (within three (3) days) is required.

(Effort should be made to arrange appointments during non- school hours. Absences due to medical appointments should be limited to the amount of time needed for the appointment and reasonable travel time.)

6. Observance or celebration of religious holidays 7. Special family circumstances, family vacation, college visits (requests should be made one (1) week

before the absence is to occur and a Pre-Planned Absence Form must be completed). Forms are available in the Main Office.

8. School sponsored or approved activities9. Family emergency

Tardiness contributes to the total hours of absence. *Medical excused absences do not count toward the 72 hours of parent excused absences

Attendance Policy

Unexcused AbsencesOnce a student accumulates 72 hours (10.2 days) of excused absence, any additional time missed during the school year is classified as “unexcused” unless accompanied by a medical note.

All other absences from school shall be considered unexcused.

A student will be considered habitually truant if the student is absent without a legitimate excuse/ unexcused:

● thirty (30) or more consecutive hours, ● forty-two (42) or more hours in one (1) school month, ● for seventy-two (72) or more hours in one (1) school year.

Two teams at BMS (Team A and B):

● LA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Intervention Specialist

● GIS and TIS support students on both teams● Students mix for specials, music, lunch

Student-led conferences* will be held Thursday, November 1 (11:30 a.m.-3:05 p.m.) and Friday, November 2 (Noon-7:45 p.m.)

● Students will be actively involved in goal setting and monitoring progress

● Student-led conferences provide an opportunity for the teacher, student, and parent to work as a team in reviewing progress and setting direction for the remainder of the school year.(*Individual parent teacher conferences will also be scheduled during these conference dates)

FEATURES OF PRIDE TIME

Passion Project Presentations will be held Tuesday, February 19 through Thursday, February 21 from 7:35-8:40 a.m.

● Students should be actively involved & assume responsibility for learning process.

● Passion Projects empower students to:● Pursue an area of interest/passion● Set goals and create action plans● Track, reflect on progress over time● Take active role in learning

● The schedule for presentations will be shared by Pride leaders at the end of January.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria is divided into 3 sections.Section order rotates weekly for lunch line.

● Students should only buy for themselves.

● No sharing food● Parents can monitor purchases

● Students sit with Pride groups the first week of school.

Students may NOT use or have electronic devices at lunch or recess. Please lock them in your locker.

Personal Devices● Use of cell phones, Smart Watches, or other internet

connected devices are not permitted during the school day nor on the school buses without adult permission.

● Cell phones are to be turned off and out of sight.

● If a staff member hears or sees a cell phone, it will be confiscated and returned to parents.

● Parent-student contact must be done through use of school phones.

● Absolutely no texting during the school day.

● Do not make arrangements for your child via text. If he//she is not feeling well have your child report to the clinic. The nurse will call you if you child needs to leave school due to illness.

If you or your child are aware of information that you feel could be dangerous to your child or others you should call the Safe Schools Hotline. This hotline will make sure that the message gets to a live person at Orange City Schools, so that the information can be acted on immediately.

You can also notify the local Police department of the information.

Do NOT leave information regarding an urgent situation on staff voice mails or emails.

Bullying & Harassment

● Incidents of bullying & harassment can be reported directly to an administrator by phone or email.

● A reporting form is also available online through the Brady Quicklinks found on the web site and in the Student Handbook.

● Incidents of Bullying & Harassment are promptly investigated and parents are notified of the results of the investigation.
