evolveintoamajorreconfigurationofthewestcoast’sformerSpaceShuttle
launch facility at Vandenberg AFB. Space Launch Complex – 6, more
commonlyreferredtoasSLC-6,pronounced“Slick-6,”wasdesignatedfor
conversionintoanew,state-of-the-artlaunchcomplexsupportingthelatest
HeavyLiftLaunchVehicle,theDeltaIV.
WithBraggCrane&Riggingasteamlead,thecomprehensiveresourcesofall
threecoreBraggCompanies:BraggCrane&Rigging,BraggCraneService
andHeavyTransport,wereusedtoseamlesslyintegrateasimple,efficient,
single source strategy that eliminated the need for multiple contractors.
Fromour involvementwith thisprojectandemployingour turnkeyservice
capabilities,theBraggCompaniescontinuetohelpitsaerospacecustomers
tocompletetheirprojectswithasafer,morecosteffectivesystem.
Labor hours exceeded 500,000 during a 3 year construction period,
throughoutwhichtheBraggCompaniesfurnishedanderectedapproximately
6,500 tons of structural steel, installed an additional 1,000 tons of steel
and500tonsofhighlyspecializedandcomplexstructuralandmechanical
components.Asaresultofthehardworkandeffortsofteamsfromallthree
ofourdivisions, todate,fourDeltaIVvehicleshavelaunchedsuccessfully
fromSLC-6.Braggisproudtosaythattheyhadaroleinthisremarkable
projectthatwillundoubtedlyseemanymoresuccessfullaunchesforyears
tocome.
