The Branemark implant was developed in the early 1950’s by Professor Par-Ingvar Branemark.Professor Branemark was the first to discover the osseointegration aspect of titanium during hisresearch of bone healing in animals. Currently, Branemark implants, sold by Nobel Biocare ofZurich, Switzerland, are available in three separate platforms : Original Branemark, Branemark MK III & MK IV and NobelSpeedy Groovy Implants:

Restorative Components:For ease in selecting components, the Branemark Section is divided by Restoration Connection:

• Direct To The Implant —or—

• Indirect To An Intermediate Component (Tissue Extensions/Abutments).Overdenture Attachments, Bar Systems, Indirect Individual Parts and Tools are found following in the Indirect Section.

The Direct Restorative Components are the elements used to fabricate a restoration that will be connected directly to the implant(s).

The Indirect / Intermediate Restorative Components fit to an intermediate tissue extension(abutment) which in turn is connected to the implant(s).

Intermediate Connector / Tissue Extension:The TE (Tissue Extension) also referred to as an abutment, is the intermediate connector between the implant and the restoration, it may extend above the tissue. In some instances, a TE extension is subgingival, to provide a more esthetic restoration.

Abutment Systems for Branemark Part 1 include: UMA, Multi-Use, StandardAbutment (SA) and HexCone (Estheticone).

Abutment Systems for Steri-Oss Part 3 include:

Implant Body:The implant body is surgically placed into the bone. One surgical method tradi-tionally involved a two-stage surgery, leaving the implant unloaded in the bone toallow for osseointegration, followed by tissue surgery to uncover the implantbefore the restorative components are added. Another method, called ImmediateLoading, is a one-stage surgery where the abutment and restoration are attachedto the implant at the time of implant placement.

Implant Standardization:The UMA tissue extension was developed to standardize the components andinstruments for many different implant allowing for an economical inventory andfor simplicity of restorative procedures. Its tapered/hexagon fitting surface is iden-tical, regardless of the size or type of implant employed, while its screw-in base isimplant specific.

Impression copings are used to take an impression of theimplant body or the tissue extension, such as the UMA orstandard abutment. The Impression copings which fit theimplant bodies are made of titanium-others are made of

stainless steel. The UCLA Hex type impression copingstransfer the hex orientation, the non-hex (bridge) type trans-fers the implant position and thread timing only.

The UCLA abutment system is the most widely used restora-tive concept for Branemark type restorations. The restorativepossibilities include single tooth, bridge, telescopic, and bartype overdenture restorations. UCLA abutment offers a

choice of a Ti .050" or .048" hex screw, a gold or Ti .050"Square Screw or a Ti Uni-Torx screw. UCLA abutmentincludes a hex or non-hex castable plastic abutment,screw, and occlusal plug (CSP-cylinder, screw & plug).

The precision machined hex or non-hex UCLA GoldCylinders are available for single tooth, bridge and barrestorations. The gold cylinder has a snap-on machinedplastic extension (waxing sleeve).

The melting temperature of the gold cylinder is 2550 – 2710Fahrenheit or 1400-1490 Celsius. The gold cylinders are

made of a 58% gold alloy. Using a similar high gold contentalloy when casting is recommended. To avoid porcelaincracking, a minimum of 0.5mm casting alloy should sur-round the gold cylinder. To create complete casting aroundthe gold cylinder it is recommended to add extra thicknessof wax and reduce after casting.

Direct titanium abutment posts are available in two configu-rations, a one piece post and a two piece. The one piecedoes not engage the hex of the implant. The two piece

engages the hex of the implant for anti-rotation. Two piecetitanium Angled Abutments in 15 or 25 degrees are avail-able for divergent implants and include a .050" hex screw.

The Natural Contour Abutment System wasdesigned by Attachments International to simu-late natural tooth contours and esthetics for sin-gle tooth and bridge implant restorations. Thegingival emergence of implant restorations cannow be ideally shaped to replicate the lost natural dentition.

A natural gingival emergence is createdthrough the tissue with the wide profile NCA

The UMA Abutment (tissue extension) is anintermediate component made to fit betweenthe implant and the restoration. The UMA has astandardized fitting surface, which allows theUMA restorative components to be interchange-able regardless of the implant type. The UMAHealing Cap protects the UMA until the restora-tion is delivered. The Bridge Tapered UMAImpression Coping transfers the UMA position

while the Hex UMA Impression Coping transfersthe hex orientation of the UMA Abutment. The titanium Ball overdenture attachment was designed tobe used with chairside or laboratory processed softliners.The attachments are available in various heights corre-sponding to tissue depth. A standard .050" hex driver is

used for insertion. A brass analog is included for laboratoryprocessing. Recommended torque is 30 N/cm. Male balldiameter is 4mm.

INDICATIONS: Implant overdentures and implant partials.

There are numerous options for implant bar restorations available today. Tosimplify your search, we have selected the most proven and popular sys-tems on this page. The ideal implantbar system incorporates a bar and retentive clips in the anterior section andlocking pin attachments distally for support and stability.The Hader-EDS Bar Master kit is the preferred choice. The carbide reamers are used to refine the inter-nal access hole of a castable cylinder. They alsorefine the seat for the head of the screw. Eachcarbide reamer and Pin Vise are sold separately.The Pin Vise will fit all carbide reamers. (A)
