Anthony Ambrosia is the son of ChuckAmbrosia and Glenda Ambrosia.Anthony’s future plans are to become agunsmith. While at school, Anthony isinvolved in Art Club and Renaissance. Heis also a member of the basketball team.Anthony enjoys working on the familyfarm with his dad, hunting, football, andbasketball.

Trever Bunch is the son of Becky Bunchand Rick Bunch. Trever plans to attendMissouri Western next fall. At BHS, Treverhas been involved in Drama Club, ArtClub, and FBLA. He attended Vo-Techwhere he trained to become an EmergencyMedical Technician. Trever is also a mem-ber of the track team. He worked at TSUwith Sodexho. In his leisure time, Treverenjoys attending Renaissance fairs, air-planes, history, reading and shooting guns.

Shelbie Creason is the daughter of Joie andTeresa Creason. Shelbie plans to attendcollege and major in Interior Design. ArtClub, FBLA, and Spanish Club are a fewthings Shelbie enjoys at BHS. She alsofinds time to babysit and attend church.Shelbie enjoys reading, fishing, swimming,playing video games, watching TV, beingcreative, and spending time with familyand friends.

John Hicks is the son of Kathryn Hicksand Eddie Hicks Sr. John’s future plansare in forestry. While at BHS, John hasbeen involved in Art Club andRenaissance. At home, John enjoysworking on cars and hunting.

Danielle Hoskin is the daughter of Danaand Bruce Bunch and Mark Hoskin.Danielle’s future plans are to attendNorthwest Missouri State University. Shehas been involved in FBLA and Art Clubwhile attending BHS. She currentlyworks for Sodexho at TSU. In her leisuretime, Danielle enjoys reading anddrawing.

Tabitha Killen is the daughter of Mike and BrendaKillen. She plans to attend TSU and major inHealth Science or Pre-Med. She then plans toattend UM-KC to pursue a Master of Science inAnesthesiology. Her school activities includeFBLA, Math and Science Club, Drama Club, andNHS. Tabitha is also a member of the softballteam and ACademic Bowl teams. She attends theCountryside Christian Church and Youth Group.When she can find time, Tabitha enjoys sewing,baking, hunting, watching sports, and hanging outwith friends.

Daisy Ledford is the daughter of Donnie andKathleen Ledford. Daisy’s future plans are to get ajob. While at BHS, Daisy has been a member of theArt Club and is a Renaissance card holder. In herspare time, Daisy enjoys Special Olympics and theYES program. Daisy has a lot of school spirit and isa loyal tiger fan.

Stephanie Linhart is the daughter of Rob andBillie Linhart. Stephanie is planning to attendMACC majoring in music. Her school activiesinclude softball, band, choir, Drama Club, FBLA,and Math & Science Club. She also enjoysattending her Youth Group. In her spare timeStephanie loves bowling, collecting Dalmatians,hanging with friends and family, reading theBible, watching movies, and listening to all typesof music.

Abdu Mohammed is visiting us from Ethiopia.His host family is Jim and Daisy Rearick. Abduplans to attend medical school in the future. Forhis short time at BHS, Abdu has been involvedin Math & Science Club, FBLA, and Art Club.In his leisure time, Abdu enjoys playing soccerand bastketball.

Phillip Seavey is the son of Phillip A. Seaveyand Lynn Flynn. Phillip transferred to BHS thisyear from Kirksville. His future plans are inwrestling. When Phillip is not at school, heenjoys skateboarding and bicycle stunts.

Ashlee Sheets is the daughter of Deanna Draperand James Sheets. Ashlee’s future plans are tobecome a pediatrician. While at BHS, she hasenjoyed being involved in Renaissance, ArtClub, and Spanish Club. When not at school,Ashlee works as a babysitter. In her spare time,she enjoys volleyball and basketball.

Ariel Smith is the daughter of BeverlyMcKim. Ariel is planning to attend MACCwith an interest in business. While at BHS,she has enjoyed cheerleading. Her clubactivites include FBLA and Art Club. Arielalso works at Sodexho. In her leisure time sheenjoys reading, camping, watching movies,and spending quality moments with familyand friends.

Daniel Smith is the son of Brad and Louise Smith.Daniel plans to attend Northwest Missouri StateUniversity to achieve an education degree in AgScience. He is a member of the baseball and basketballteams. Daniel’s school activities include Art Club,FBLA, NHS, Math & Science Club and StudentCouncil. He also finds time to work on the family farm.In his spare time, Daniel loves hunting, fishing, andhanging out with friends.

Katie Stewart is the daughter of Eddy and CarlaStewart. Katie’s future plans are to attend CentralMethodist University and major in Early ChildhoodDevelopment. Katie has been on the cheerleadingsquad all four years at BHS. She is also a member ofFBLA, Art Club, and Renaissance. Katie’s extraactivities include volunteering for Parents as Teachers,Jump for Heart, and United Way. She also babysits andworks at McDonalds. When Katie can find time, sheenjoys hunting, fishing, shopping, cadeting thekindergarden class, and hanging out with friends andfamily.

Megan Taylor is the daughter of Dick and RobinTaylor. Megan plans to attend MACC thentransfer to Northwest Missouri State Universityand major in Psychology. While at BHS, Meganhas been involved in FBLA, Art Club, Math &Science Club, and Student Council. She is also amemeber of the basketball team. Megan attends4-H and Church of the Nazarene Youth Group,Megan’s hobbies are riding horses, reading, andplaying basketball.

Matt Thomas is the son of Doug and BeckyThomas. Matt’s future plans are to attendWilliam Woods University and major inPhysical Education. He is also planning to playbaseball for the Owls next fall. While at BHS,Matt has been on the baseball and basketballteams. His other activites include FBLA, ArtClub, NHS, Math & Science Club, and StudentCouncil. His interest are baseball and hangingout with friends.

Congratulations Class of 2010

The Class of 2010 was one of the bestand brightest that BHS has sent forthinto the real world over the lastseveral decades. This class provedtheir mettle during their time here byworking hard on their academics, aswell as by serving the localcommunity with many variousvolunteering efforts. This work wasrewarded by the class earning over$500,000 dollars of scholarshipmoney for their respective futures.Good luch on the many paths that youall will travel.

Homecoming 2010 was an exciting time thoughoutthe halls of BHS. The cheerleaders prepared a brandnew dance, the basketball teams were practicing forthe big game, and the rest of the student body wasready to celebrate the week at the homecomingdance. Anthony Ambrosia and Megan Taylor werecrowned King and Queen, while Hayden Housmanand Olivia Thompson were selected Prince andPrincess. The week’s activies culminated with araucous pep assembly, the Lady Tigers defeatingNovinger 50-35, the Tigers dropping a hard foughtgame 62-50 to the Wildcats, and the fun-filled dancefollowing the game.

Lady Tigers GarnerSolid Campaign

The Lady Tigers finished off another successful year byposting a 10-5 record. The Lady Tigers were led by fourAll-Tri County Conference team picks: Abby McKim,Cierra Hines, Shelby Salter, and Katie Watson. The softballteam won the consolation championship at the AtlantaTournament, while the JV squad took 2nd place at theSchuyler County JV tourney. After a hard fought loss in theopening round of the district tournament to MarionCounty, the Lady Tigers hope to rebound next year byreturning all but two players back to next year’s squad.

Our ChampionsThe 2010 Brashear Tiger Baseball team experienced enough thrills to last alifetime. The fall squad shared another TCC championship, but that successwas only a taste of what was to come during the spring baseball season. Afterposting a 7-4 regular season record and dropping their last three regular seasonballgames, the Brashear Tigers caught lightning in a bottle at just the right time.The Tigers made enough plays to pull out victories during district play: a hardfought 2-0 game against Green City; a walk-off homerun by Adam Songer todefeat Canton 5-3; and, a come-from-behind victory over Atlanta 16-7 for thedistrict championship. The Tigers got timely hitting and rode the arm of All-State selection Matt Thomas. Fortunately, districts were an appetizer. TheTigers went to Cairo and won 4-1 in sectionals, and turned around two dayslater and defeated Sturgeon 3-2 at Doc Gardner Field in Kirksville. Thequarterfinal victory over Sturgeon assured the Tigers of some state-boundhardware for the trophy case. The Tigers were not content to merely get to theFinal Four in Springfield; they wanted to win it all. In the state semi-final, MattThomas pitched seven strong innings, and Hayden Housman scored fromsecond base on an Adam Songer fielder’s choice. Housman’s speed and CoachHeath Schneider’s aggressive coaching decision allowed Brashear to take a 3-2advantage, and the Tigers held on as Matt Thomas finished off the CooterWildcats to advance to the Class 1 State Championship game. In thechampionship game against the Concordia Orioles, the Tigers fell behind earlyby allowing four runs in the top of the first. The Tigers fought back, but wereonly able to plate one run by Nick Thomas in the bottom of the third. Despitefour come-from-behind rallies for wins during the post-season, a championshipseason was not meant to be. The Tigers’ season and championship dreams cameto a close losing to the Concordia Orioles 6-1. The Tigers’ overall record of 13-5 capped off an historical, and often times, magical baseball season; one thatwill not soon be forgotten. The successful 2009-2010 baseball seasonsproduced many individual accomplishments, in addition to the state runner-upfinish. Junior Hayden Coin’s stellar play was rewarded with a 1st Team All-TCC honor. Sophomore third baseman Nick Thomas was selected 2nd TeamAll-TCC. Junior Cody Snelling also picked up 2nd Team All-TCC honors aswell as All-State accolades for his offensive and defensive work for the Tigers.Senior Matt Thomas earned the conference MVP award, 1st Team All-TCC,and All-State for his work both on the mound and at the plate. Coach Schneiderwas also selected as the TCC Coach of the Year, as well as Kirksville DailyExpress Coach of the Year status. The Tigers lose three seniors in Matt Thomas,Daniel Smith, and Abdu Mohammed, but return a strong nucleus of talent fornext several years. Hopefully, the Tigers will make deep runs in the post-seasona regular occurrence.

The junior high girls’ basketballteam gained caluable experienceduring thei year’s basketball sea-son. The team featured a solidcore of players that will bothremain at the junior high level aswell advance on to the varsityLady Tigers.

Four ninth graders will move up tovarsity next year and try to contribute to the varsity Tigers.

Lady TigersThe 2010 Lady Tigerswere a work in progress.While playing a lot ofunderclassmen, the squadgained valuableexperience in preparationfor the upcoming years.The teams best finish wasat the BrashearTournament, garnering a6th place finish. The LadyTigers also recorded apair of 7th place finishesat the NovingerTournament and the NorthShelby Tournament.

Despite their 6-19 record,the squad featured severalbright spots that will returnfor next year. Up and Down Year for Tigers

The 2010 Tigers put together three andfour game win streaks during the season.Unfortunately, they pieced together fiveand six game losing streaks as well. TheTigers placed 4th at the NovingerTournament and took consolation duringthe Brashear Tournament. Individually,the Tigers had two 1st Team All-TCCplayers in Matt Thomas and AnthonyAmbrosia. Ambrosia earned 1st TeamNortheast All-District Team, whileThomas was selected to the 2nd team.Additionally, the Kirksville Daily Expresshonored Matt Thomas with HonorableMention All-Express honors. BothThomas and Ambrosia graduate this yearso the squad will look forward to a goodnucleus of players returning for the 2010-2011 season.

The 2010 Junior HighAcademic Bowl season was ahuge success. The Junior Highsquad finished with an 8-4record and placed 2nd in theTri-County ConferenceTournament. This group ofcompetitors featured four ninthgraders that will work toadvance to the varsity squadnext year. Eighth grader SamSmith earned All-TCC for hisperformance at the conferencetournament. This group willlook to continue the success ofthe varsity group by working toattain conference titles.

The BHS varsity academic bowl squad wonits fifth consecutive TCC Tournament in2010. The team went undefeated in theregular season and carried that momentuminto the conference tournament. During theconference tournament, BHS defeatedAtlanta, LaPlata, Bevier, and Bucklin enroute to its fourth straight title defense. Thesquad won its first three competitions by anaverage of 200 points, while beating Bucklinfor the title by a “mere” 50 points. Theacademic bowl participants played well atdistricts, but ultimately were defeated byNorth Shelby as NS upset BHS twice on thefinal day of the season. Regardless of thedisappointing final outcome, the season wasa tremendous success. Jay Scudder earnedMVP honors for his high scoringperformance at the TCC tournament. NickThomas also earned all-TCC accolades forhis efforts. The squad returns most of itsscoring for next year and prepares to go aftera six-peat.

The 2010 Track season was abusy one for the track athletesat BHS. All of the squadscompeted well at the conferencetrack meet with both the varsityand junior high boys finishing6th. The varsity girls placed 5thand the junior high girls stole theshow by winning the meet. Atthe district track championships,the varsity teams displayedmany solid performances whichwas good for a 10th placeshowing for the girls and an 11thplace showing for the boys.

The 2009-2010 school year produced another successful bunch of future business leaders. Inaddition to FBLA Week activities that increased school spirit and helped raise membership forthe club, the students in FBLA were garnering high marks in competitions at the local and statelevels. At the District 3 FBLA contest Jay Scudder placed first in Accounting and TechnologyConcepts; Tabitha Killen placed first in Sports Management and second in Accounting; theBusiness Ethics team of Chandi March, Sydney Slavin, and Ashton Wolter placed first; MattThomas placed second in Marketing; and Nick Thomas placed second in Introduction toBusiness Communications. These students competed at the state competition in Columbia andTabitha Killen qualified to advance to the National FBLA contest in June. Thanks for the Years of ServiceThe 2009-2010 school year brought the school a lot of change. Part of thatchange will be some new faces for the 2010-2011 school year. All of ourstaff have positively affected each and every one of the students in ourdistrict, however, the accomplishments of Mr. Steven Kerr, Mrs. ShelleyWood, Ms. Jeanie Casady, Mrs. Wendy Kerby, and Mrs. Denise Brown aregreatly appreciated for their dedicated work to the district.
