An exciting event coming to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is the 2016 Olympic Summer Games. Rio de Janeiro is one of the biggest cities in Southern Brazil. Brazil is one of the only countries to be bordered by 10 countries. Brazil should be one of the top countries on a global awareness list. Three reasons to include Brazil on the list are Brazils Exports, the 1958 World Cup, and Christ the Redeemer. The first reason for putting Brazil on the global awareness list is the export iron ore. Iron ore is the biggest export in Brazil, representing 13% of all Brazils exports.[footnoteRef:1] Brazil exports most of their goods to China. Like most other exports underground, mining is the way to go when trying to get iron ore. Most of Brazils exports are natural; they export those goods to get electronic items. Australia and Brazil, the largest iron ore producers, will raise their combined share of global seaborne supply to 90 percent as they boost output and spur the closure of higher-cost mines, according to Macquarie Group Ltd.[footnoteRef:2] People need iron ore because it is hard metal, which is used to make steel. 26% of the worlds iron ore comes from Brazil.[footnoteRef:3] The second reason for putting Brazil on the global awareness list is Brazil won the soccer world cup for the first time in 1958.[footnoteRef:4] The World Cup Final took place on June 27, 1958 in Sweden.[footnoteRef:5] Brazil played the home team, Sweden. Pele, a 17-year-old boy dominated on Brazils soccer team.[footnoteRef:6] Pele won the award for Best Young Player at the World Cup that year. With a newfound tactical organization and two supreme attacking talents in Pele and Garrincha, Brazil beat Sweden 5-2 in the Final at the Rasunda Stadium to become the first team to capture the trophy on a different continent.[footnoteRef:7] The attendance for the World Cup was 819,810, yet the average was in prior years 23,423.[footnoteRef:8] The World Cup is played every 4 years and the team that wins is considered the best in soccer.[footnoteRef:9] The third reason for putting Brazil on the global awareness list is for the landmark Christ the Redeemer. The 83-year-old Christ the Redeemer is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.[footnoteRef:10] In order to build Christ the Redeemer, they brought in leading engineer Albert Caquot from France. The height of Christ the Redeemer is 38 metres tall and weighs 1,145 tons.[footnoteRef:11] Christ the Redeemer has one trap door in his right shoulder for mechanic purposes. Marco Roiter, it's not explicitly religious. It's more like somebody giving you a hug - welcoming you.[footnoteRef:12] Christ the Redeemer is the symbol of Brazil and has 5,000 visitors per day.[footnoteRef:13] The original reason for Christ the Redeemer being built was to have the people of Brazil not to lose hope in god during the wake of World War 1.[footnoteRef:14] To wrap it up, Brazil is one of the best cultural places to go and hopefully it will make it to the top of the global awareness list. Iron ore is important to Brazil because it is used to make steel and steel is made into many items all over the world. The first World Cup championship for Brazil is important because this was a major soccer milestone for them. Christ the Redeemer is important because he is known all across the world and is the symbol of the Brazil nation. Brazil is one of the biggest countries in the world with a variety of cultural landmarks and events; and everyone should visit if given the opportunity.
