But our citizenship is in heaven, And we eagerly await a
Savior from there, The Lord Jesus Christ, who by the power
that enables him to bring everything under his control
will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be
like his glorious body. — Philippians 3:20-21

“To Our Mother”
Because of you, our life is near perfect (smile). Our
experience during childhood is unlike most; because they didn’t
have you as a “Mother.” You taught us things like cooking,
cleaning, baseball, football, whistling, and playing marbles was
just a few things you taught us.
As a teenager, church was the number one place to be. We
won’t ever forget the many football games you attended,
Christmas plays to name a few and the times you sat in the
emergency room with one or the other because of an
injury sustained while playing. You never complained, you
never asked us to quit, you just sat there with that
concerned Mother’s look.
We are now, all grown and have children that are the
center of our life, realizing our life would not be that
perfect picture, if we didn’t have a
“Mother” like you.
Love you,
Your Children
Revelation 22:1, 5
And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding
from the throne of God and of the Lamb . . . There shall be no night there:
They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light.
And they shall reign forever and ever.
In Loving Memory . . .
Maude C. Poittilo, 82, affectionally known as “Big Mama” was called home to be
with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 19, 2012 in Maryview Medical
Center. She was born October 3, 1929 to the late Frank and Luvinia Dickens. She
was predeceased by her husband, Jeremiah Poittilo, Sr., her brother, Melvin Robert
Lee Williams and her son, Melvin Robert Lee Poittilo (Cynthia).
Maude was a faithful and active member of New First Baptist Church
(Taylorsville). She was a member of the Combined Ushers Ministry, Female
Ushers Ministry, Widows/Widowers Ministry (former Ministry Leader) and the
Pastor’s Aide Ministry (known as the Shining Star Ministry). She was also a
member of the Mt. Hermon Chapter #19 OES and Rhoda Court #2 Heroines of
Gericho. After many years of service, Maude retired from the Navy Exchange in
Portsmouth.
Maude was a warm-hearted person, who helped anyone she could. She was a good
mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother and was the
backbone of her family. Maude was well known for her homemade rolls and good
cooking. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted family: three daughters,
Patricia Dunn (Earl), Lucelia Glover and Francis Poittilo (Frank, fiancé); two sons,
Jeremiah Poittilo, Jr. (Ernestine) and Anthony Poittilo (Wanda); 13 grandchildren,
23 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, a host of cousins and friends.
She suffered a long time but she suffers no more. May she rest in peace.
Before our eyes she fades away;
growing weaker every day.
Patiently bearing her suffering
until God called her away.
She heard a voice we could not hear;
It said, “You cannot stay.”
She saw a hand we could not see
which beckoned her away.
We love you so very much
but God loves you best. . .
The Poittilo Family . . . “Gone from our touch but never our hearts.”
