Our children are our future. More and more we are becoming increasingly aware of the prevalence of sleep apnea during childhood. How does this happen, and what should we as dentists do about it? Does aberrant growth of the airway and craniofacial regions predispose children to OSA? Are children at risk for the same consequences as adults with OSA? Can airway issues predispose our children to an increased risk of cardiovascular and endothelial disorders, obesity, diabetes, or cognitive impairment, and can we as dentists act as part of a multidisciplinary team to prevent this from happening? This programme brings together specialists from various disciplines including sleep, allergy, orthodontics, myofunctional therapy, otolaryngology, and endocrinology to discuss the causes, consequences, and dental treatment of abnormal growth of the craniofacial complex and paediatric airway.
