New Nominations Program: Background

• Premise: International competition is the future of Breeders’ Cup and our sport

• The cross-registration agreement between BC and the EBF expires at the end of 2010.

• BC required a new nominations model to significantly broaden international participation in our events.

New Programs

• New programs authored by an international subcommittee chaired by Clem Murphy (Coolmore) and attended by Olly Tait (Darley), Bill Farish (Lane’s End), Bill Oppenheim and Greg Avioli.

• Three-part program:• International Stallion Nominations• One-time “Open Enrollment” in 2011• Enhanced Challenge Series

New International Nominations Program• International stallions can nominate directly

to BC for the first time.

• Lower fees than for U.S. stallion nominations:• Northern Hemisphere: 50% of stud fee• Southern Hemisphere: 25% of stud fee

• All foals automatically BC eligible without payment of additional fees

New International Nominations Program• Program begins for 2011 breeding season

• Expected to increase the number of international foals eligible for BC each year from less than 1,200 to over 20,000 by 2015

• Results in more of the world’s top horses competing in BC events

2011 Open Enrollment

• One-time nomination program intended to increase international participation in the Championships beginning in 2011

• Timeframe: February 1 – June 30, 2011

• Nomination fees:• Yearlings: $3,000• Two-year olds: $6,000• Three-year olds and up: $25,000

BC Challenge Series• Challenge “Win & You’re In” series: a 65

race program conducted in seven countries• U.S., Canada, England, Ireland, France,

Australia and Hong Kong

• Challenge winner benefits for 2011:• Automatic berths in the Championships• Championships entry fees waived• Travel subsidies
