Dear Ethel I saw a few locals traveled to Dubbo for the Gary Allan concert. What a great night! It was full of excitement the atmosphere was fantastic between the smoke and the singing. How are the ear drums Bob? and what was that girl wanting (a pig or a pick.?) Who was the local Shire Worker who went to sleep in front of the heater and melted his shoes, then got up and walked on his car-pet "how does that melted black rubber stain look ?" and will it come out ? happy scrubbing! David Coleman had a great surprise on fathers day when his Son Mitchell and Partner Delena arrived. Also Happy Birthday David for Wednesday the 5th. Congratulations to all the Fathers out there for Fa-thers Day. Happy Birthday to Mark Felton for the 6/9/2000 - the big 30. Never mind Mark they say you are only as old as you feel. Get well to Les & Ferna Grange who were not feel-ing so hot last week. Great to see the Footy team make it to the Grand Final. It’s a shame they didn’t win but it must be a good feeling to have a large number of locals supporting the team. Talking about football, I am sure Ab Seaton is walking around with a big smile on his face "maybe its time to take down the flag Ab". That time is creeping up on us do you have the be-ginnings of a raft up and ready to go? How about those floats? There are a lot of great idea's out there, I sure hope we can put them all together on the day. The Hospital ball should be a fantastic night. Although I am not sure on the theme as of yet, I am pretty positive home made ties are ok. If in doubt on what's happening give Kerryanne or Heather a ring and they will set you all on the right path. Margaret at the Café tells me that the Café will be doing something special for the Out Back Surfboat Classic. Doesn’t it make the imagination work over time. Oh we'll, just have to wait and see. Welcome home to all the kids from boarding school I am sure you will all be busy over the holidays. I heard on the grapevine that Kevo has his daughter

DEAR EDITOR

On reflection of my last letter to you and the com-

munity of Brewarrina I believe I was being too gen-

tle in actively saying that the police and court sys-

tems hands are to a degree tied up, but I truly believe

that they could do more tan they are doing In other

words I believe they are tying their own hands up. In

my observations and in my own opinion (to which I

am entitled to the same as you are), there are only a

handful of fair dinkum coppers in this town and they

know who I mean. All the rest do is provide a taxi

service making time earning their stripes and moving

on. In my last letter I stated that I was classified as a

repeated victim, what I did not say was that I was

going to be visited by my local victim support officer

in the near future that letter is dated 18-3-1999 it is

now 18 months later, guess what? No person has

called on me. I also have a letter from the office of

the director of public prosecutions re an assault on

myself about the prosecution of the offender, that let-

ter is dated 29/10/98. You guessed it zilch this case

has to my knowledge not gone to court. I have not

received any feedback from the police on this matter

as I stated in my last letter to you the vast majority of

folk in this town have a very negative attitude.

WHY? I TELL YOU WHY. A total lack of confi-

dence in the Brewarrina Police Force, a lot of inci-

dents happen in this town and are not reported WHY

because of the lack of confidence in the police

(except for the handful of fair dinkum guys)

What is the MAYOR of our town doing about it In

my personal observations VERY LITTLE IF ANY-

THING. I was not born and bred in this town I have

only been here for 8 years in December but I call the

town of Brewarrina MY HOME I live here and I

shall die here I care very much for my town and the

community, their health, safety and general well be-

ing. SO LOOK OUT MICHAEL HAS HIS FINGER

BACK ON THE PULSE.

OBITUARY

LINDA ROSE McKENZIE

1917 - 11 AUGUST 2000

Linda was born in the old family home at 21 Young street

which is now demolished. She was the 5th of 7 children

born to Margaret and Walter McKenzie. Linda started

school at St Patrick's School, Brewarrina in 1923. Her first

teacher was Miss Irene Coleman, and it is ironic that Irene

was, and still is, a patient in the hospital where Linda died.

Her first working position on leaving school was as a te-

lephonist at the local Post Office, she well remembered a

wild storm which set the cables alight near the switch

board, it gave her a terrible fright.

After this she had quite a few positions in town, working

as a secretary at Parrott's garage, secretary to Tom

Schofield Jnr. At the Brewarrina Hospital in the mornings

and with Tom Schofield Snr at the Newsagent in the after-

noon, and at night she was the ticket collector at the local

Picture Theatre, a full day.

Her next position was with Turnbull's Garage, then onto

"Cathie & Co.", which later became AML&F. Linda held

this position for quite a few years. Dick Webb then ap-

proached her and asked if she would do his clerical work.

In August 1963 Linda started work as the Librarian with

the Brewarrina Shire Council working first at the old

School of Arts Hall, then moved into the new library in

1971. Linda stayed in this position for 19 yrs retiring at

the age of 66 in 1983. This position was only part time, on

her spare days she assisted Mrs Badge Stephens at her

office (Insurance and Pastures Protection Board and col-

lection spot for Housing Commission Homes).

In 1984 Linda went to live with her sister at "Baringa"

where she stayed until 1995. Although born in the country

Linda was not happy at being so far out of town. The last

5 yrs of her life were spent at the home of 119 Bathurst

street Brewarrina. In 1997 the family put on a party for

Linda for her 80th birthday, she said it was her first party

ever. It was one of the few times I was able to get some

personal stories of her life from her to include in a "This Is

Your Life " booklet.

In early 1999 the back gate at the home swung in the

breeze knocking her down and breaking her hip. Linda

never really recovered from this, but said little, never once

mentioning that she was feeling off color, even when we

visited her in March this year. Linda is survived by her

elder sister Mrs Jean Bell of Brewarrina, two nieces Pam

O'Toole of Kootingal and Norma Meadley of Narromine,

and two nephews Barry Hutchinson of Bonnells Bay, and

Peter Hutchinson of Brewarrina.
