Please join us for our second annual knowledge sharing professional development day. Our colleagues have offered to teach tools they are using in their classrooms to enhance everyday instruction.

Our conference offers 4 sessions throughout the day. Frontline requires 4 sessions to be selected, so please select "Not Attending Session#." for any of the 4 sessions you are not attending, or if you are teaching that session.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words! Presented by: Jessica Dubin, Briarcliff Manor UFSD Room: MS 94

This workshop seeks to explore the connections between visual art and writing. Using observation and reflection as a starting point, participants will examine a variety of ways in which works of art (paintings, sculpture, craft objects, historic artifacts) can inspire students and stimulate the writing process. After completing a few group exercises, participants will be encouraged to develop lesson ideas for use in their own classroom—regardless of subject area. The atmosphere will foster the creative exchange of ideas and culminate in a round-robin journal project. Open to all staff at any grade level.

Accessibility on the iPad Presented by: Jody Wexler, Apple Room: MS 308

Apple embraces Accessibility as a fundamental human right. This session will primarily focus on built in accessibility features on iOS and MacOS devices with additional conversation around teaching and reaching all learners. 

Apple Classroom Presented by: Tom Homer, Apple Room: MS 208

Classroom is a powerful app for iPad and Mac that helps you guide learning, share work, and manage student devices.  You can launch an app, a website, or a textbook page on any iPad in the class, share documents with your students, or display student work on a TV, monitor, or projector using Apple TV. You can even see which apps students are working in, mute student devices, assign a shared iPad to each student, and reset a student’s password. And when class ends, you can see a summary of your students’ activities.This session will take you through an overview of Classroom. You’ll learn how to get started using the app and discover how to integrate it into daily classroom workflows.

BrainPOP Gets Everyone Coding! Chris Cook, BrainPOP! Room: MS 302

Come learn how to make the most of your BrainPop subscription! Developed in partnership with Scratch and Vidcode, BrainPOP Creative Coding pairs block- and text-based projects with BrainPOP's vast cross-curricular content.  They'll code memes, games, newscasts, comics, and more while learning about the benefits of coding and its associated skills offer. Scaffolded and delivered at the topic level, we'll discuss how these projects make it easy to introduce coding - no matter what educators are covering in class and regardless of prior experience.

Clips in the Classroom Presented by: Erin Kassas & Jessica Kelsey, Briarcliff Manor UFSD Room: MS 312

Teachers and students can use Clips to create expressive videos using video clips, photos, music, stickers and more. As an easy-to-use free app on an iPhone or iPad, Clips can be utilized as a learning tool to teach content, give tutorials, and demonstrate learning. Come explore how to use Clips and start your creations! *We encourage all teachers to join even if their students use Macbooks. The application works just the same on an iPhone!

Join us to learn about Everyone Can Create, a new program from Apple designed to help unleash the creative potential in every student through photography, video, music, and drawing. In this session, you’ll get hands-on with some of the music and drawing lessons. “Schoolwork is an app for teachers and students that makes it easy to share and receive content, collaborate, and integrate app activities into class instruction and homework assignments. Schoolwork provides simple, integrated workflows for teachers and students to share and collaborate. Teachers can share content with students, even when students are out of the classroom. Teachers can assign students anything from PDFs, links, documents, and even activities within an app. Teachers can easily view class and student progress data, and use the data to better understand how students are doing and individualize instruction based on student needs. This session explores the creative side of coding with Augmented Reality. AR has become one of the hottest topics in education today. Until now, AR coding has been relegated to the few. Not any more! Using Swift, Apple powerful coding language, we will explore creating an AR environment that can be done by anyone. No coding experience necessary. Starting on iPad with Swift Playgrounds, we will learn AR code foundations in a fun and game like way. From there we will explore Reality Composer, a new Free app from Apple that allows you to easily create your AR education experience. Finally we move on to XCode to take your AR project and make it into an app. We hope you will join us on this AR journey to bring AR into any classroom and subject.

Augmented Reality: Cutting edge becomes the new normal Presented by: Fredy Padovan, Mosyle Room: MS 201

Here we explore the powerful tool that is augmented reality on iPad and the role it plays in differentiation while meeting the various learning styles in the room across the curriculum. Go hands on with various apps across the curriculum from digital storytelling to science to social studies and beyond.

CBL is collaborative and hands on, asking students to work with peers, teachers, and experts in their communities and around the world to ask great questions, develop deeper subject area knowledge, accept and solve challenges, take action, and share their experiences. Learn how to create and implement a challenge, and explore ways to integrate CBL into the classroom.

iPads, Virtual Reality and Google Expeditions…Oh My! Presented by: Lisa Jamin, Monticello Central Schools Room: MS 203

Traveling the world isn't easy or fiscally possible but using an iPad to guide students through worlds or volcanoes or to dive underwater to the Great Barrier Reef, immerses them into these places. Students who, especially learn visually, find themselves visiting the moon and sea creatures up closes when viewing it through theses expedition kits, while being guided by a teacher. It becomes a way of learning differently in the classroom.

Pages: A Creative Alternative to Word Presented by: Michele Bendlin and Diana Gavin, Briarcliff Manor UFSD Room: MS 210

If you are looking for a way to make projects and lessons more creative, come learn about Pages. This Mac application is a user-friendly word processor that has more enhanced templates than Microsoft Word and allows real-time collaboration. With this tool, you can easily use pre-made templates to create flyers, brochures, resumes, books, formal letters, certificates and more. We will showcase examples illustrating student work, help you navigate basic features, and provide plenty of time for participant exploration and creativity.

This session explores the creative side of coding with Augmented Reality. AR has become one of the hottest topics in education today. Until now, AR coding has been relegated to the few. Not any more! Using Swift, Apple powerful coding language, we will explore creating an AR environment that can be done by anyone. No coding experience necessary. Starting on iPad with Swift Playgrounds, we will learn AR code foundations in a fun and game like way. From there we will explore Reality Composer, a new Free app from Apple that allows you to easily create your AR education experience. Finally we move on to XCode to take your AR project and make it into an app. We hope you will join us on this AR journey to bring AR into any classroom and subject.

BrainPOP Gets Everyone Coding! Chris Cook, BrainPOP! Room: MS 302

Come learn how to make the most of your BrainPop subscription! Developed in partnership with Scratch and Vidcode, BrainPOP Creative Coding pairs block- and text-based projects with BrainPOP's vast cross-curricular content.  They'll code memes, games, newscasts, comics, and more while learning about the benefits of coding and its associated skills offer. Scaffolded and delivered at the topic level, we'll discuss how these projects make it easy to introduce coding - no matter what educators are covering in class and regardless of prior experience.

Augmented reality, virtual reality, drones, 3D printing, robotics, computer programming, and other STEAM related topics are becoming quite popular in education. With so many different tools available it can be overwhelming for a teacher to know where to begin. This session will showcase some exciting innovations in education within these areas and provide participants with a resource for each area to learn more or even begin to incorporate in the classroom. We will also explore why these skills are important for our students today, especially elementary students, as they will eventually face an ever changing landscape of career opportunities that will require STEAM skills.
