Seller InsightSituated on the fringes of the pretty village of Ticehurst is Brick Kiln Farm, a stunning Victorian family home that was purchased by the current owners a little over five years ago. “This really is a beautiful home,” says Susan, “and I think what really appealed to us when we first came to look at it was the

fact that it sits on the ridge of a hill in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and so the views are quite magnificent. We had moved from a suburban area and were longing for a complete lifestyle change, and Brick Kiln Farm offered us everything we had been looking for.”

“The back of the property faces south, so it’s an incredibly warm house,” continues Susan, “and because of its position on the ridge most of the rooms take in the views; for as far as the eye can see it’s nothing but rolling fields, trees and hills. It’s also a very spacious home and therefore ideal for entertaining because we can accommodate a number of guests and never get the feeling of being on top of one another. And of course we also have the annex, which is a wonderfully flexible space that could be used for guests, teenagers or even elderly relatives.”

“Because of the way the house is laid out and the fact that so many of the rooms can be opened up to the garden, I would say that weather permitting of course, we probably use the outside space as much as the inside,” says Susan. “The family room, kitchen, sun lounge and annex all open onto the wonderfully spacious terrace, and beyond that the garden is divided into lots of lovely different areas. We also have a ha ha which runs along the boundary so that the views are not in any way impeded.”

“Just like the house, for us the location has been perfect,” says Susan. “The village has a selection of small shops for day-to-day necessities and a fantastic pub, which has become the centre of the community, and a little further afield we have Wadhurst and Tunbridge Wells. We have everything we need here and it’s also wonderfully convenient.”

Favourite room: “The hub of our home is definitely the kitchen,” says Susan. “It’s situated right in the middle of the house and it overlooks and opens onto the terrace. It’s a lovely space for everyday family living and also a fabulous space to entertain family and friends.”

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: “We cycle and walk an awful lot,” says Susan, “and this area also has many historical connections’’. We have Bewl Water just a stroll away; Bedgebury National Pinetum, which plays host to some wonderful summer concerts, and we’re also just a stone’s throw from Dale Hill Golf Club.”

Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): “Shortly after moving here we converted the stable block, so it now houses an office, a games room, a small kitchen, and it has a BBQ area just outside,” says Susan. “We’ve had so many fabulous times out there, and it’s ideal because there’s no need to come into the main house.”

What they’ll miss most / why they are leaving: “I can honestly say that this is the nicest house I have ever lived in,” says Susan, “and the surroundings are ever changing but always beautiful. We have decided to move because we want to spend more time with our children who live abroad, but I will always look back on this house with great fondness.”
