AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT & MANAGEMENTBNT believes our apartments are much more than a physical structure, they’re an opportunity for a new start, a launching pad to stability. Our newest building, 515 West Avenue has a focus on veterans, making it possible for veterans like two-term Vietnam era veteran Randy Jackson to have a place to call home. After serving his country Jackson found himself displaced from his home and down on his luck until he found BNT.

BNT’s mission is to LEAD, EMPOWER and CHANGE Bridgeport neighborhoods, improving quality of life through affordable housing opportunities. To meet this challenge, BNT develops and manages affordable housing, provides comprehensive homeownership education and wealth building services, and supports economic empowerment through its social enterprise initiative. Our work focuses on the following main areas:

EMPOWERMENT RESOURCE ACADEMY (ERA)Sometimes, to keep or put a roof over your head all you need is a little help, that’s where BNT comes in. BNT’s Empowerment Resource Academy (ERA) provides support in the form of counseling that helps you avoid foreclosure, improve your credit, or prepare you to buy your first home. Guided by BNT’S Empowerment Resource Academy staff, Adrian Cunningham and Annakay Young’s dream of owning their own home became a reality.

RESIDENT ENGAGEMENT AND EMPOWERMENTSingle mother Elyssa Pacheco was referred to BNT’s Empowerment Resource Academy (ERA) for the Rental Counseling and Education Program where she learned the ins and outs of renting. Elyssa was later given an opportunity to apply and become a resident of Westgate Apartments, BNT’s newest development. As a resident, she is part of BNT’s Resident Engagement and Empowerment Program, a program dedicated to helping families and individuals avoid homelessness by ensuring a partnership between tenants and onsite managers. This partnership helps BNT provide residents access to benefits that will improve their quality of life.

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE INITIATIVEAs part of our community building strategy, BNT is providing opportunities for residents to work and create where they live. This initiative lead off with BuildBNT, a newly formed construction company, which compliments the real estate development activities by acting as general contractor for small development projects. BuildBNT’s first completed project at 1534 Seaview Avenue now houses four young families with children. This is the first of three businesses that BNT intends to create in 2018. Coming soon is a market/café, laundromat, & thrift store.
