12. List of Technologies/Products/Varieties/Patents etc,Technologies:

o Introduction of IPM package using sex pheromone trap (1 trap/100m2) is effective in reducing the notorious insect, Sweet potato weevil (Cylus formicarius) infestation and to increase marketable tuber production. The experiment has been concluded and IPM package of sweetpotato weevil management will be recommended soon from CTCRI

o Developed Phytopthora leaf blight resistance molecular markers in taro for rapid screening of the blight resistant lines/cultivars of Taro.

o AICRP on Tuber Crops, Kalyani Centre, BCKV has been selected by ICAR as National Repository of the germplasms of Aroids (Taro, Elephant Foot yam, Swamptaro) in 2014.

o AICRP on Tuber Crops, Kalyani Centre, BCKV has been selected by ICAR as the centre for DNA fingerprinting of national germplasm collections of taro and elephant foot yam. ICAR approved AICRPTC, BCKV as DNA fingerprinting centre for validation of the genetic purity of tuber crops and varieties prior to be released by any SAU.

Kalyani. My research expertise is in the area of Molecular Biology and Plant Virology focusing on the molecular understanding of host pathogen interactions and characterization of plant viruses and their variants. I am involved in evaluating new fungicides and defining their interactions with hosts and pathogens using conventional and molecular approaches. He is currently managing 14 projects funded by Govt. of India and Indian and Multinational Corporate sectors.

I have more than 24 years research experience and has carried out need-based research on the pathological problems of major crop plants, especially root and tuber crops, but also in rice and grass pea. He has experience in screening crop cultivars for high yield, starch and beta-carotene contents, resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. He has released (group contribution) varieties of Elephant Foot Yam (variety Bidhan Kusum), Taro (variety Bidhan Chaytanya), and sweet potato (variety Bidhan Jagannath, Kamla sundari).

In 2013 the research centre under the inchargeship of me received a Best Performing Centre award from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. His research group works on molecular plant pathology and plant virus diagnostics with funding from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the Indian Ministry of Agriculture and DBT of Science & Technology, the University Grants Commission and the Plant Variety Protection & Farmers’ Rights Authority.

I have active collaborations with numerous universities including Delhi (South Campus) and the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, and has sponsorship from DBT and corporate sectors including Syngenta, BASF, Isagro (Asia), United Phosphorus Ltd., Indofil Chemical Industries, Excel Crop Care Ltd, FMC India Ltd., Parijat Industries ltd, Crystal Crop Industries Ltd, Rallis India Ltd. GSP India Pvt. Ltd. I published more than sixty scientific papers in reputed journals, released several leaflets/pamphlets on the production, improvement and protection technologies of tuber crops to the farmers.

I have established advanced plant pathology and molecular biological laboratory at the Directorate of research building, BCKV, Kalyani.
