Brief profile of Coal India Ltd.
MISSION OF COAL INDIA LTD.
The mission of Coal India Limited is to produce the planned quantity of coal efficiently and economically with due regard to safety, conservation and quality.

Coal India Ltd. a Mini Ratna Company is the single largest coal producing company in the world.During financial year 2007-08, Coal India produced 379 million tonnes of coal and has plan to increase it’s production up to 520 million tones by the end of 2011-12.It has 4.25lakh employee and having its headquarters at Kolkata,West Bengal.It is the largest corporate employer in the world . It contributes about 85% of total Coal production in India.Its turnover was Rs. 38,631.33 crores during thefiscal year 2007-2008 and with a gross profit of Rs. 8,122 Crores.

Coal India ( in short CIL) operates 473 mines spread over in eight states out of which 283 are underground, 155 opencast and 35 mixed mines. It operates 19 Coal Beneficiation Plants.CIL mainly produces coking and non-coking coal .74% of total coal production of CIL caters to 72 thermal power station, out of 75 of the country, generating 64,285 MW.

• Period of training for Management Trainees.• One year for Mining,Electrical&Mechanical discipline.
• Security Deposit• To serve for a minimum period of 50 months for which an
amount of Rs.1,000/-per month will be deducted from the salary of the trainees and after completion of 50 months the amount will be refunded.
• Emoluments• Minimun Rs. 16,911(including 30%H.R.A)during
training period in E1 scaleof pay.
After successful completion of training period, the incumbents will be placed in E2 grade in the scale of 10,750-16750.

Pay scales are due for upward revision w.e.f.01.01.07.The pay package may be around Rs. 4 to 5 lakhs at the initial
stage after revision.• Career Growth.• After one year successful completion of training,the placement will be in E2
grade in the pay scale of Rs.10750-16750/- with annual increment of 4% of basic or Rs.600/-(under revision) whichever is less.
• Promotion from E2 to E3 grade and E4 to E5 grade are time bound under cluster concept on completion of three years in below grade. Promotion from E3 to E4 gradeis vacancy based on seniority cum merit basis.
• In this process, it is expected that an executive may reach up to E5 grade within 10 to 12 years. Promotion beyond E5 grade on merit-cum-seniority basis based on vacancy. If an executive performs well, he may become Director/CMD of the company after 18 to 20 years.
• Fast Track Promotion– There is a separate fast track promotion system for the
excellent and extra ordinary executives.

• Conveyance Allowance• i) Four wheeler : Rs. 2500/- p.m.(E5 and above)

– Moped : Rs. 250/- p.m.
• Underground Allowance : @ 15% of basic pay for those who are required to go underground regularly.
Schooling Facility:In the event of posting in Coalfield good/reputed schools are available with Subsidized transport facility for the school children. Coalfield Allowance
• From Rs. 8600-10750/- : 425/- p.m.
• Rs. 10751/--Rs.12092/- : 800/- p.m.
• Rs. 12093/ and above : Rs. 1100/- p.m.
• City Compensatory Allowance
• Reimbursement of one cooking gas cylinder every month
• Unlimited Reimbursement of Medical Treatment incurred outside company empanelled hospital as per extant MAT rules.
• Specialist Allowance for executives posted in CMPDIL.
House Rent AllowanceMaximum 30% p.m. of basic and minimum 10% of basic
• Gratuity ( on retirement or death) Presently maximum Rs. 3,50,000/- as per payment of Gratuity Act 1972.
• CMPF : 12% contribution with equal share of the employee and employer. On retirement it may come Rs.50,00,000/- as per present salary structure.
• Pension : on retirement 25% of basic plus DA.
• Post Retirement Medical benefit: on payment of Rs.40,000/- after retirement Rs.5 lakhs will be covered for medical treatment of the executive and his spouse besides payment of one months pensionable amount in every year for purchase of medicine without production of any document.
• Accidental death/Permanent total disablement:- One time payment of Rs 5 lacs in addition to other payment.
• Dependent’s Employment:-In the event of death/Medical unfit/permanent total disablement, one employment is provided to the dependent of the executive.
