Briefing for Poetry Parents
11th September 2019
College Prayer
Lord,
teach us to be generous:
to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the cost;
to fight and not to heed the wounds;
to toil and not to seek to rest;
to labour and to ask for no reward
save that of knowing we do your will.
Amen.

SUCCESSFUL STUDY
VESPA – EffortWhat do A grade students do?
Studies show that students with an A grade at the end of studying their first year of A levels work 20 hours a week across their subjects.
Students who got the equivalent of A’s or A*’s do about thirty hours of independent study a week.
How long are the working weeks of high earners in the UK?
VESPA - Practice
On average humans can hold around 7 things in their working memory.
Writing knowledge down and changing its format to a more memorable format will improve your chance of storing this in your long term memory.
VESPA - Practice

Student 2: only does 10 hours revision– 2 hours on mind maps– 2 hours on creating flash cards of key terms– Three hours writing timed essays– 2 hours working through past papers and looking for
patterns in questions asked– 30 minutes doing the hardest question they could fins
followed by 30 minutes talking it through with their teacher
