Dear Parishioners, It is with great excitement that we present this important milestone for Holy Family Parish – the presentation of the Renovation Master Plan. I realize it has been a long time coming and after many meetings and returning to the drawing board we are now ready to present the plan to you for your feedback. At this time, I would like to express my gratitude to the members of the Steering Committee who worked so diligently with the assistance of Jim Hundt, Architect, and Dr. Michael DeSanctis, Liturgical Design Consultant. You may remember that back in May of 2000, Fr. Angeloni convened The Dream Team. This team was created to develop a vision for future capital improvements to our parish campus. The Dream Team completed that task and we have been moving on from there to bring this plan to fruition. Please refer to the “Bringing the Vision to Life Project History” on the opposite page for further details. You will see that this is a substantial project and will require us, as a parish, to conduct a capital campaign to raise the necessary funds. Over the past several weeks we have interviewed fundraising companies. During these interviews, we discussed our history, community, and our vision for the future so that we can insure the company selected will best serve our parish family. Over the next few months we will be conducting a feasibility study to determine our potential to raise the necessary funds. We will have a random sampling from the Parish, and some of you will be interviewed by our fundraising consultant. We will not venture into a project of this magnitude unless we are certain we can raise the money to complete it. Each of us has an important role to play in the creation of the future of our parish. What we build now, together, is the legacy we will leave for our children and our children’s children. As stated in our mission statement, we are, indeed, “Called to share our gifts and talents”. It is my privilege to witness this momentous occasion in the history of Holy Family Parish.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Rev. James Nash Pastor

Bringing the Vision to Life Project History The Diocese of Wilmington mandated that every parish participate in the Diocesan Capital Campaign “Bringing the Vision to Life. In order for our parish to participate it was necessary to determine how the money raised would be best used at Holy Family Parish. The Diocese rolled out the campaign in four waves; Holy Family was in the fourth and final wave of the campaign. The Diocese established the financial goal and the money raised was divided between the Diocese (40%) and parish (60%). We raised $400,000 from this campaign.

May 2000: The Dream Team was convened by, then pastor, Rev. Michael Angeloni to develop a vision

for future capital improvements to our parish. This vision was developed through interviews with members of groups and organizations that make up our parish. In addition, input was solicited via questionnaire and our web site from parishioners at large.

January – September 2002: Parish Staff reviews Dream Team Report accepting the recommendations

contained in it. From this a Case Statement for the Diocesan Campaign was developed. This Case Statement included a multi-phase approach to reconfiguring the worship space, adding a daily chapel, and expanding the hall, kitchen, gathering space and Religious Education Center.

Fall 2002 – Fall 2005: Pledge Phase of the Capital Campaign August 2004: Form/Reform Conference on art, architecture, design, building, and renovation was held

in Los Angeles. Six members from Holy Family attended; they became the Search Committee and were given the task of recommending a Liturgical Design Consultant (LDC) for our parish.

August 2005: Fr. Angeloni accepted the recommendation of the Search Committee and hired Dr.

Michael DeSanctis as our LDC. The Search Committee, with additional membership, becomes the Steering Committee for the project.

November 2005-January 2006: Dr. DeSanctis engages in an educational process for the parish,

including parish-wide formation sessions about church history and architecture. Dr. DeSanctis also meets with the Steering Committee to review church documents pertaining to building and renovation.

July-September 2006: The Steering Committee, with the assistance of Dr. DeSanctis, interviewed six

potential architects and submitted a recommendation to Rev. James Nash, Pastor. James Hundt, AIA was hired for the project.

January -2007: Program Document, a compilation of parish spatial surveys, is presented to the parish

by Dr. Michael DeSanctis. James Hundt, Architect, is introduced to parish. February 2007- April 2008: James Hundt, Architect, in collaboration with the Steering Committee,

creates a Master Plan for Holy Family. Steering Committee Members: Roberta Briggs; Ray Bulson; Bob Gorski (Deceased); Rev. John Grasing; Mike Handlin; John Lynch; Rev. James Nash; Pamela Nash; Miriam Reed; John Sisson; Judy Stives; Yli Vallejo
