A - Anchorage

Anchorage is the biggest city in Alaska. The population is 286,174 residents in

2009. It ‘s located in South Central Alaska .The Iditarod starts here on the 1st

in March.

B – Bow Head WhaleThis is the state marine mammal. It is dark-colored whale without a fin.

It grows up to be 6.6 feet. It can weigh up to 136 tons. It lives

entirely in the arctic and sub-arctic waters .

C – Canada Canada borders the state of Alaska . They are in the same hemisphere .

It’s population is 33,487,208. It extends from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the

west and northward into Arctic Ocean . It is the second largest

country by total area .

D- Dog MushingDog mushing is Alaska’s state sport. Here is 2 types Sprint mushers (short distance, faster speed,) and distance mushers (long distances , and slower speed). Some mushers use a ‘merry-go-round’ to keep the dogs in shape .It is a year round activity for the mushers.

E- Estelle SoilIs for Estelle Soil. It is Soil consists of very deep, well drained soils in mantle soils in mane of ash. It is 14 to 24 thick .It is found on glacial plains and hills lopes .Birch and spruce Tree’s grow here .Established in 1996 after a woman pioneer from the late 1800’s .

F- Forget-Me-NotForget-Me-Knot is the state flower of Alaska .They are blue ,pink, or white flowers with yellow centers . They bloom in Spring .They can be an annual or a perennial plant .

G-Grizzly BearGrizzly bears are also known as the

silvertip bear. They are usually found near streams, lakes, rivers,

and ponds. Grizzlies like to be near water. They females weigh an

average of 330-77o pounds and have one to four babies every other year.

The males weigh anywhere from 500-1000 ponds. These animals have

brown fur with white tips.

H- HuskyHusky is a general name for several different breeds of dogs. They were originally used as sled dogs. They are known now for sled dogs as well as pets.The name husky comes from the word “Eskimo”. The female dogs weigh from 35-50 pounds, while the males weigh from 45-60 pounds. They are very energetic dogs. This is why they use them so much in dog mushing.

I-Iliamna LakeThe largest lake in Alaska is known as the Iliamna Lake. The lake is 77 miles long and up to 22 miles wide, with a maximum depth of 988 feet. The three types of fish that most people come here to fish for are trout, salmon, and grayling. Local residents often say that the Iliamna Lake Monster lives here.

J-JuneauJuneau is the state capital of Alaska. It has been the capital since 1906. It is almost as big as Rhode Island and Delaware combined. The city is named after a man named Joe Juneau. He was known as a gold prospector. The size of Juneau is around 3,255 square miles.

K-Kodiak BearK-Kodiak Bear The Kodiak Bear is no where near extinction . As a matter of fact it is at a historical high right now. The Kodiak Bear is a a species of the grizzly bear .These bears only live on the Kodiak Archipelago. They have been there for over 12,000

years .

L-Lake MinchuminaLake Minchumina is located at the center of Alaska. It is in the Yukon-Koyukuk district. The population in this area in 2000 was only 32 people coming from 16 homes. The area is 244.1 square miles of land with the Lake Minchumina being 27.7 miles of water.

M- Mount McKinleyMount McKinley is the tallest mountain in Alaska. It is the highest peak in the United States. The elevation of this mountain is 20,320 feet above sea level. The mountain is located in the center of Denali National Park and Reserve.

N-Nickname

The Nickname of Alaska is “The last frontier” . It is known as the last

frontier due to how far it is from the other 49 states in the U.S.

O-Official state holidayThe Official State Holiday of Alaska is Seward’s Day .It is where everybody in Alaska sings .It falls on the last Monday in March .

P – Ptarmigan Bird

The Alaska state bird is the Ptarmigan Bird. The Ptarmigan Bird lives in Alaska and also in Canada. Some are also located in the forest in the Northern hemisphere. Some

are all white, like snow white. There is three different types of Ptarmigan

birds and all three live in Alaska.

Q-QuinhagakIt is a city in Bethel Census in area of Alaska .It is the biggest city in Alaska .It is also named after a lake or a car. It ‘s population is 2000:+0.4!

R – Red Fox

The Red Fox can hear really well. They like to small rodents and sometimes fruits and vegetables. Foxes are one of the most hunted animals for their fur.

S - Sitka Spruce

The Sitka Spruce is the third largest tree in Alaska. It is about 50 to 70 meters tall. The trunk grows larger

every two weeks .

T-TeshekpunkT-Teshekpunk Lake .It is also in Alaska. Is the second largest lake in Alaska.

U - Unvelis

U-U is for the most popular car in Alaska .It is the Toyota Unvelis. You can't believe how much it is .

W-Williams H. Seward

He is the secretary of Alaska . He was not going to get but there was only 48 states on the list . Who surrounded in a price tag.

X – X-Back

The X-back is a type of harness used for the dog mushing. It is an important part for dog mushing .They call it X-back because the “x” on their backs.

Y-Yukon

It is apart of Canada . And it is the western and smallest part of Canada thee. It is also a river . It’s population is 30,372,.

z-

Z-Z is for the Zodiac it is a type of modern boat used for fishing, and for diving in the water, but mainly it is used for fishing. They cost a lot of money; about $3,182!
