Location:Crosses the river Waal south-east of Rotterdam, Netherlands

The Zaltbommel Bridge is a cable-stayed road bridgewith three traffic lanes in each direction. The bridgedeck is constructed of a combination of prefabricatedconcrete elements and in-situ concrete. A master plan combinedopen space with a 286,000-square-footbuilding and a 241,000-square-foot parkingstructure. Both projectsfeature total-precastconcrete structuralsystems, which combinedarchitectural andstructural componentsinto single units.

The design for the buildings, totaling 100,000 square feet, contrasts the “sobriety” of the twowings, with an architectural precast concretefinish, by the exuberance of three colorfulgenerators, represented by three shades ofceramic tiles. The building’s framework consistsof a total-precast concrete structural systemcontaining load-bearing panels with a sandblasted finish, double tees, beams andcolumns.
