The teams met in Clinton for the first time and the LumberKings swept the Snappers in a three-game series that ran April 20th through April 22 nd . Clinton took two of three from Beloit in a three-game series at Harry Pohlman Field that ended the month of April. The LumberKings trail the all-time series, dating back to 1982, 224 to 259. Since Clinton has been affiliated with the Seattle Mariners (2009) they are trailing in the head-to-head matchups 81 games to 82. LumberKings Starter: Nick Wells, 22, makes his 14th appearance and start of the season for the Clinton LumberKings. The Virginia native, took the loss his last time out despite a strong start. He set a professional career high in strikeouts with nine. Wells allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits while walking one. The lefty was the LumberKings Opening Day starter and has made all of his scheduled starts. He has thrived against left-handed hitters this season they are hitting a combined .179 (7/33) with an ERA that is a full run lower, 3.27, against right handed hitters, 4.40. This is Wells third season with the LumberKings and came over the Seattle Mariners organization in deadline deal with the Toronto Blue Jays on July 31, 2015. The Blue Jays originally selected Wells in the third round of the 2014 draft out of high school. Snappers Starter: Mitchell Jordan, 23, makes his 11 th appearance and seventh start of the season for the Beloit Snappers. The Florda native, receive a no decision his las time out for 4.2 inning outing against the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park. The righty allowed three runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out six. Jordan has not faced the LumberKings this season but did face them twice in the 2017 season. He went 0-1 and allowed a season high nine runs in a start against Clinton on May 31. Jordan allowed two grand slams to LumberKings batters in the start, one to current LumberKings Nick Thurman. He has been nearly unhittable at home this season. In addition to holding opponents to a .147 (10/50) batting average at Harry Pohlman Field and posting a 1-0 record to go with a 0.45 ERA. The Oakland Athletics took Jordan in the 10 th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Stetson University. Last Time Out: Every Clinton LumberKing starter either scored or drove in a run in a 9-4 win over the Beloit Snappers on Saturday night at Harry Pohlman Field. The win keeps the LumberKings (38-31) playoff hopes alive while snapping their longest losing streak of the season at five games. Clinton raced out to an early lead against Snappers (32-36) starter Jared Poche. Louis Boyd collected the first of his three hits in the first inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Costello. Poche (2-5) would be chased from the game in the top of the second when the LumberKings offense exploded for six runs while sending 11 men to the plate in the inning. Billy Cooke drove home the first run of the rally with a sacrifice fly to left, Eugene Helder drove home two with a double to right center, and Costello had the biggest hit of the inning slugging a two-run home run to right center for his team leading tenth home run of the year. The LumberKings tallied their final runs of the night in the top of the sixth. Boyd's third and final hit of the night started the two-run rally with Helder driving him in two batters later with a single. Joseph Rosa capped the rally with an RBI bunt single down the line at first. Matt Clancy worked the final 2.1 innings for Clinton and induced a game ending double play ball from Austin Beck that snapped the LumberKings skid at five games to keep their playoff hopes alive. A Cathartic Moment: The six-run second inning by the LumberKings had to have been a cathartic moment for a team that had scored just 10 runs during their five-game losing streak. Clinton batters broke out for 14 hits in scoring their nine runs and the second inning ranks as tied for the third biggest offense inning of the season. Paid by the Hour: Saturday nights 9-4 LumberKings win included a lot of offense which took a lot of time. It took Clinton three hours and four minutes to wrestle away game two of the series from the Snappers. The game is tied for the LumberKings longest game played this season. Everyone Joins in the Fun: Everyone of the Clinton LumberKings starters and ten players in total found themselves involved in the offense on Saturday Night. Every LumberKing either drove in or scored in a run in the 9-4 win. Seven of the LumberKings batters collected hits with Louis Boyd leading the way with a three hit night, and Eugene Helder, Joseph Rosa, Johnny Adams, and Dimas Ojeda each had two hits. Going to the Derby: Ryan Costello will be one of the four LumberKings in Lansing this year for the All-Star game. The day will be busy for Costello who accepted an invitation to participate in this year’s home run derby. He leads the team in home runs, nine, coming into this series and also owns the longest home run hit at Ashford University Field this year, a 461 foot smash against the Dayton Dragons on Sunday, May 6 th .
