SUMMER COURSEBISS Summer School has a lively, fun and stimulating atmosphere, which encourages students to make friends from all over the world, while improving their language skills. We use an integrated, communicative approach and attention is placed on speaking and listening skills. The afternoon activities are exciting and stimulating, encouraging practise of the skills learned in the classroom. Activities include shopping, sightseeing, visits to the beach, the famous Victorian Brighton Pier, the exotic Royal Pavilion, sports, kayaking, bowling, discos and barbeques.

INTEGRATION COURSEThe Integration programme (Joining the British students for some lessons at Dorothy Stringer High School)

The integration programme is general English for school groups that runs throughout the school year, (September – June).BISS is based at Dorothy Stringer High school where international students are welcomed into the school community.This course concentrates on communicating in English, with the emphasis on speaking and listening in fun, stimulating and motivating classes. On the ‘Integration Programme’, you will have the unique opportunity of joining the British students in some of theirlessons. This programme is enhanced by living with a trusted, local host family where English is spoken and helps build on your skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom.

The students study together in subjects such as Languages, Art, Cooking, Sports and Science.*

This immersion course is an innovative and very successful way of learning and offers all students an exceptional experience in a lively, vibrant British High School, learning about British education and culture.

CLIL (CONTENT AND LANGUAGE INTEGRATED LEARNING)CLIL is a way of teaching where subject content – for example, Art History – is taught in another language (often English). In this case the subject is taught through another language, so you learn both language and content.Learning a subject through another language can also provide extra motivation for the subject. You will develop a strong sense of achievement as you notice your rapid progress in your other language.

PET FOR SCHOOLS (PRELIMINARY ENGLISH TEST FOR SCHOOLS) (A1 – B1)These Cambridge exams follow the principle that children’s learning is based onsuccess and achievement. We offer a range of exams for young learners of English to motivate them for their further study of the language.

At this level the learner should be able to cope linguistically in a range of everydaysituations, which require use of English in their own or foreign country in contact with native and non-native speakers of the language. The course and exam content includes reading, writing, listening and speaking.

FCE (CAMBRIDGE FIRST CERTIFICATE EXAM)These Cambridge exams follow the principle that children’s learning is based onsuccess and achievement. We offer a range of exams for young learners of English to motivate them for their further study of the language.

FCE is an upper-intermediate level exam for people who can use everyday spoken and written English and is ideal for those who use English for work or study.

TRINITY GESE ENGLISH EXAMS – PON 2015The Italian ministry of Education has special funding (PON) available to send students to the UK. The aim of the programme is to ‘improve the language skills of the students from vocational, technical and linguistic high schools to allow them to have better chances of employment and a better university career.’

Trinity’s GESE exams test the English speaking and listening skills of people whose first language is not English. They focus on building motivation and confidence in usingEnglish and enable students to chart their progress from beginner to proficiency.

The exam consists of a 5-15 minute interview, depending on the exam level, with an external, certified examiner, during which the student must demonstrate his or herability to have a conversation in English about topics he or she has prepared in advance. There are 12 exam levels which are designed in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Minimum entry: A2 for 3rd year students and B1 for 4th and 5th

ACCOMMODATION

At BISS we understand that your accommodation is a very important part of your stay in Brighton. We take particular care in selecting our host families to ensure a safe, clean, comfortable and friendly environment for you. You can choose to have your own room, or share a twin room with a friend or a student from another nationality.

All our home stay accommodations are checked and monitored regularly, to ensure that it is of a good standard and conforms to the British Council Regulations. Host families are given strict guidelines about the services they need to provide to ensure that all our accommodation is operated to the same standards.

Your will eat most meals together with the family

Most host families have internet and Wi-Fi access

You will have use of allessential facilities

You will be allowed to receive incoming calls; however, you are advised to bring or buy a mobile phone

Rooms are cleanedfrequently and bed linen/towels changed weekly

The host families are located around Brighton, but not longer than 20-25 minutes journey, either by bus or on foot

For students staying more than one week you will get one load of laundry done per week

ACTIVITIES AND EXCURSIONS

BISS offers a full and varied activity programme with all of our courses. The programme provides a well balanced mix of fun, sporting and cultural activities, so you can fullyexperience Brighton and its surrounding areas.

Brighton is one of the most popular cities in England for visitors and our activityprogramme aims to show you why. From a relaxed stroll through the bohemian quarter of Brighton’s North Laine full of independent shops and world class street art, to the nearby town of Lewes, steeped in history. O ur programmes offer an exciting experience for all.

Cultural visits, dinners, sports, excursions and quizzes are just some of theactivities we have available. Our summer programme brings even more fun with other activities including: kayaking, beach games, discos and BBQs.

LONDON:Every Saturday we visit London. On our walking tour you will see;Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Buckingham Palace. We also have other trips to London including Camden Town, Oxford Street, Brick Lane, South Kensington, Museums and Greenwich.

We offer a standard activity programme with both our off season and peak season courses, but can tailor theactivities in advance.
