Science Park Amsterdam Bringing together knowledge, talent and ideasScience Park Amsterdam has been devoted to science for over half a century. The internationally renowned center for scientific research, edu-cation and knowledge-related business activities is a joint initiative of the University of Amsterdam (UvA), the City of Amsterdam and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).

A large number of top-level knowledge institutes are located here, mu-tually benefiting from each other’s knowledge and presence. Thanks to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), Science Park Amsterdam boasts a superior technological infrastructure. A growing number of companies in the areas of life sciences, ICT and new media are located here. The provision of a hotel and conference center, spor ts facilities, a grand-café-restaurant and student-housing, ensures a dynamic environ-ment and an attractive place to work. Science Park Amsterdam invests in building a strong community of highly qualified professionals and scientists by all kinds of services, meeting places and activities.

Collaborations between businesses, institutes and education can produce many fruits. In addition to the scientific and research institutes, around 90 companies have set up business, mainly in the fields of life sciences, ICT and related areas. The existing number of businesses and institutions is set to increase with the addition of a total of 500,000 square meters in faculty buildings, research institutes, offices and laboratory spaces, university services and housing. With these developments, the future of Science Park Amsterdam is assured as a place where high-quality edu-cation, research and entrepreneurship go hand in hand with knowledge, talent and ideas. It has become simply the best place in the Netherlands for companies in beta sciences.

MATRIX VI

Matrix VI is a step towards next generation service and housing for dynamic companies. The experience of 17 years exploitation and management of Matrix I, II, III, IV and V is condensed into the concept and the design of Matrix VI.

Matrix VI has ca. 5.500 square meters in five stories of office and laboratory space and is developed for companies in Life Sciences. The floors are approx. 1,000 square meters and offer a lot of flexibility. Stores can be used by one tenant but are also easily separated in four or even more units.

Corridors and hallways, the first place a client sees or where you meet a new neighbour. In Matrix VI these are designed as pleasant and inviting daylit spaces. In our philosophy an attractive work place leads to happier people and better work performance. Matrix VI offers such an inspiring work environment.

DaylightAll facades have an optimum adaptation to their specific orientation. Allowing maximum entrance of daylight but blocking undesirable direct sunlight to avoid excessive heating up of the building.

EnergyThe building utilizes a low temperature heating and a hot temperature cooling system. Energy usage is minimized by implementing a heat and cold storage system.

WaterA green roof that covers most of the building provides an extra layer of insulation and functions as a water retention system. Furthermore the mosses growing on the substrate absorb fine particulate matter thus

reducing air pollution.

Sustainability

In our view, sustainability means more than placing a few energy saving lamps. Criteria like “energy consumption”, “adaptability and flexibility”, “application of materials” , “inspiring work environment” and “location/accessibility” have been taken into account all through the process of development and design. Matrix VI will meet the highest standards of sustainability.

Energy efficiency of Matrix VI is focused on climate installations, energy efficient façades, ventilation of fume cupboards, and geothermal systems for heating and cooling.

Matrix VI will be an attractive and inspiring working environment due to light spaces with attractive meeting points which facilitates cooperation between employees and networking with others.

Furthermore the design and layout of Matrix VI will be sustainable because its laboratories and office spaces provide flexibility to meet present and future requirements and needs of tenants.

MaterialsMatrix VI uses building materials that are either renewable, re-usable or

recyclable.
