On April 10, Friends of the James V. Brown Library honored library volunteers who work in var-ious library programs, as well as support the work of the Friends. The celebration was held in the Lowry Room of the library. Ardythe Cross, President of the Board of the Friends of the James V. Brown Library, commented on the importance of these dedicated volunteers and the support they offer to the various library programs. President of the James V. Brown Library Board, Thomas B. Burkholder, shared additional roles of the volunteers and the signifi-cance of their work in supporting the library. Barbara McGary, Execu-tive Director of the James V. Brown Library, presented the Carile Brown Award, named for the wife of the

library’s founder, to Dr. Don Adams. Adams, former member of the James V. Brown Library Board of Trustees and former superintendent of the Williamsport Area School District, worked to develop the district’s connection with the library. While on the Board, he served on the Personnel Committee and was also the Chair of the Nominating Committee. Additionally, since his retirement from the school district, he now serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Union County Library, where he continues to support public libraries. Cross awarded the Volun-teer of the Year Award to Dr. Mark Noe, former member of the Friends Board. While on the Board, he served in a variety of capacities. One of his first contributions was a monthly book review for the Friends newslet-

ter. Noe also served on Membership, Book Sale, Book-store, and Govern-ing Committees. He was elected Vice-President of the Board in 2004 and served two terms, and later he became Secretary of the Board, a role he held for four years. The award recipients received framed plaques and the choice of a book to be dedicated to them and placed in the library collection. Allison Savage, volunteer coordinator, thanked volunteers for their dedication and spoke about the value of relationships. The evening ended with a reading by Nina White, Children and Youth Services Manager.
